I'm glad this story had a happy ending. I thought it had something to do with the gargoyles, so it was surprising to read it was actually a hostage. It's an interesting premise, and memorable setting given that it's a fire station.

The fire engine's sirens echoed through the nighttime city. After about 30 minutes of travel, they arrived at a grayish Gothic-style house with red doors. The strangest thing was that they didn't see any fire. Stel got out of the fire truck and headed for the door.

This is a great description that provides some sound and action to the story. Rich details like this evoke images that make the story more salient. It's an entertaining story.
