The gift I never wanted but got anyway:
I'll start by saying that I hate house coats or bath robes. My partner and I always felt that way. His parents love bath robes and hang out in them as much as possible.
We moved to a one room studio apartment, that had little sun coming through the windows so we opted for sheer curtains. There is a building in our view.
I decided to get bath robes so we could leave the shower without getting dressed in the steamy bathroom. I got them from a thrift store.
We were tired of having these two robes hanging on some hooks in our room. We were not using them anymore. They became a pain in the rump.
I threw them out in haste.
Soon after it was my birthday. My partner went to see his parents. His mother sent him home with a present for me.
It was, you guessed it, a bath robe. It was extra large. I am extra small. It could fit two people inside.
"Oh thank you so much for the bathrobe, but you shouldn't have". She didn't know that I really meant it.
It now hangs waiting for time to pass, so I can donate it to the thrift shop.
