Qurator's Mischievous Mondays | Reverse Theft: The Secret Giver

MM.png

Welcome to Qurator's Mischievous Mondays!

This will be a weekly competition that we will be hosting every Monday. We want to see a little more engagement and fun when it comes to some of our competitions so this will be a simpler and shorter competition. Easy to enter, but maybe not so easy to win. ;) This competition will be similar to the Monday Missions we had a long time ago, but instead of writing posts to enter we will now consider only the comments and answers on this blog as your entry to win.

Why Mischievous?

We all could use a little fun in our lives. We would even say that we deserve it, let loose a little and have a go at making everyone laugh or think a little, even if it is a little over the top or pure silliness. Go all out and let your creative juices flow.

This week's theme : Reverse Theft: The Secret Giver

You sneak into people's homes — but only to leave them mysterious gifts. What gifts do you leave behind, and why?

I slip into houses unnoticed, like a forgotten breeze in the dead of night. I never take anything - I only leave. In the corner of the living room, I rest an hourglass without sand, filled instead with tiny golden leaves that seem suspended in time. In the kitchen, I hide inside a teacup a note written on rice paper, bearing an ancient calligraphy: "Not every thirst is for water".

On the bed, I leave a key made of petrified salt, with no apparent lock, only a faint scent of sea air lingering in the room. On a bookshelf, among slumbering books, I place a hollow wax apple that contains, hidden within it, the sound of a forgotten laugh - released only if someone dares to break it.

My gifts serve no practical purpose. They are seeds of restlessness. I want those who find them to feel a slight shiver, an unanswered question, an inexplicable urge to look up at the midnight sky and search for something they cannot name.

I leave behind mysteries - because deep down, life needs unanswered questions as much as it needs air.

We look at the news and see only bad news all the time, tragedies, kidnappings, murders, and thefts. If all that energy used for harm were used to do good, would the world be a better place? Maybe. So how about breaking into houses in the silence of the night just to leave something behind, something to change a random person's day, leaving only a smile and a question mark?

Imagine finding an anonymous letter with words of encouragement on the kitchen table. Or a small flower on the windowsill, with a note attached to it saying: "You are important." Maybe a book left forgotten on the couch, with a secret dedication. Or a piece of chocolate on the table, carrying the extra sweetness of a faceless kindness. Books for those who seem to need new stories, plants for those who need more life around them, handwritten letters for the lonely, and small toys for those who have children. One gesture could change a day, who knows, maybe it would even be contagious?

Without seeking recognition. Just the quiet pleasure of knowing that somewhere, a life was touched. A reverse robbery: instead of taking, we leave. Instead of hurting, we heal. A small gesture to remind us that hope, just like happiness, can also be passed along.

If I could sneak into people’s homes as a Secret Giver, I would leave behind a handwritten letter, carefully filled with words of kindness, hope, and encouragement.
A simple word of encouragement like
"Life can sometimes feel overwhelming, and in those quiet, heavy moments, even a simple reminder that someone cares can be enough to reignite a fading spirit."

Alongside the letter, I would definitely love to leave a small, living plant which stands for a gentle symbol of growth, resilience, and silent strength. Every time they water it, I hope they would remember that even in their hardest days, they are still growing, still alive, still moving forward.

Congratulations to us all🎉🎉. Thank you for the support 🙏. Heres this week's entry;

I don't like throwing parties for my birthdays, but as a custom, I express love to others on that day. I sneek into several people's homes I had put down on my list to help them monetarily and with provisions.

Most of them are widows who are suffering to provide basic needs for their children. I left an envelope with money and a basket full of food at each home.

I also left a note. In the anonymous note, I explain that I have seen their efforts and attempt to encourage them to continue to be strong and be excellent parents to their children.

If I were a secret giver, I would choose the hospitals to sneak into the rooms of the sick and I would pass my hand through each one of them to heal them and thus end the suffering of those people that the pain does not leave them neither day nor night. I would be a secret giver of health, exchanging pain for health, it should be noted that the improvement would bring happiness and tranquility for the whole family.

I consider that those who are sick, are weak, are not self-sufficient and taking advantage of the power of being a secret giver of health, I would feel happy to see them healthy and doing their normal life.

Human beings are obsessed with the unknown. The pleasure of novelty is something that fills part of their existence. Finding something practically impossible or having access to unique areas is something that fills the gaps left by existence. As simple as it may seem, the surprise of the unexpected is something that feeds the being.

I aim to change the world, at least part of it. Sneak into the house of the other people ended up becoming a personal hobby. Over time, I ended up calling myself a reverse thief. Instead of stealing items, I give people mysterious chests, each with a padlock with a 5-digit password, something that will make people dedicate a lot of their time. You might even think that they might break, but I left a mark on the outside with the following sentence: this is a sensitive item, avoid strong blows so it doesn't break. Curiosity will be the trigger for an unexpected and unprecedented activity. The victorious ones who open such an item will have access to a "treasure map." An endless journey into the unknown that will take them to a random place without any relevance. Anger may be the feeling at such a moment, however, knowing that the journeys may not bring fruits is also a learning experience.

Why do I do this? So that people learn that nothing is free, everything requires effort and dedication and even then there is no guarantee of achieving wealth.

I still don't know what or who he was, what his name was, or where he got his powers from. What I do know is that everything changed overnight for me.

Everything in my life was going very wrong; nothing was going right, no matter how much effort or sacrifice I made. Nothing, everything was going downhill. I didn't have a job, I was alone, even my dog had abandoned me for no apparent reason. I was depressed, unmotivated, hungry... I didn't even bathe anymore.

It all happened one Saturday night when I was lying face up in bed, starved, tired, and with very negative thoughts. I had already lost my will to live. Suddenly, he appeared...or so, I can't even remember his form, although I do remember his calm, deep voice as he told me...

If you want, everything will change starting today. Everything you set your mind to will be achieved, your life will improve unimaginably. You will recover everything you once had, you will be happy again...

I had been completely speechless with that presence and those words.

It's very simple...

He continued, in the face of my silence.

All you have to do is dedicate the rest of your life to doing good to others by being a thief, but not a traditional thief, but a thief in reverse. Instead of stealing, you will leave gifts. The gifts will be your source of power and, at the same time, they will be your power. The gift you choose will be able to absorb all the negative aspects you consider to be in the place you leave it and, at the same time, will provide happiness, satisfaction, and good vibes to the family who receives it, as the negative aspect you determined will be eliminated and replaced by its complete opposite. The success of the gift and its effective use will translate into double your prosperity and a source of power so you can continue creating gifts to leave in every house you choose to visit after sneaking into it unseen.

I nodded, speechless, and I was overcome with amazement that completely paralyzed me. I couldn't even think or analyze how I would do it.

I only know that from the next day on, I woke up with incredible energy and skills I didn't know I had. Every time I passed by a house that needed "my reverse burglar services," a higher power told me that was the place, and I automatically came home to build the strangest artifacts I had ever seen, always in a different but common form that would fit that home where I would enter, not to steal, but to leave. Although in a way I stole, yes, I stole the negative, recycled it without knowing how, and converted it into positive energy for myself and for the objectives of my reverse robbery.

The first thing I built, without really knowing how, was a music box that absorbed domestic violence and replaced it with love. That's how I saved the first family, and then the second with a guitar whose sound, whatever it was, attracted optimism and banished pessimism, and the third with a simple door that granted willpower to those whose will was broken.

And so, each family had a different problem, and my energies created an object that transformed everything into its opposite.

My life changed, and so did the life of my city. I became the only good thief in the world, a reverse thief who stole badly and left the good behind.

Life is becoming harder with each passing day; people are going through a lot with no one to talk to or help them.

For some, what they really need isn't something very expensive; it might just be a word of encouragement or a hug.

So if I am to sneak into different people's homes unnoticed to drop them a mysterious gift, I would drop what they really need at that moment; I would not drop the same gift for all of them because we all have different needs.

For a family with young kids, I would drop a set of colorful, playful toys and different candies.

For a bookworm, I would drop a rare edition of their favorite author's book. For a lady that's heartbroken, I would gift her a flight ticket for a vacation to a nice place for her to relax and change environments.

For a guy going through a lot, I would drop a letter with comfortable words. Reminding him to remain strong because this too shall pass. What doesn't kill him will make him stronger.

For some homes I would drop off beautiful flowers to bring smiles to their faces.

The only reason why I would be dropping those mysterious gifts is to spread love, joy, and kindness. People need to know that they are not alone in this world; there's someone somewhere that truly cares about them. A silent benefactor that would always bring smiles to their life.

Here's my participation....

I have been watching the new neighbours ever since they moved in three months ago. They were quietly mysterious. No one knew anything about them and that creeps me out

I want to get to know them. I want to find out what makes them tick and perhaps make a friend or two with their children. As an only child, I'm bored being by myself all day long.

I watched them for another month and yet nothing to write home about. I won't take nothing for an answer. I think it's time I put on my curiosity cap and do something mischievous 😂.

So I waited till it was dark and then I sneak walked into their home. I picked the locks easily and went in quietly. The room was dark but I brought a mini flashlight.

I wanted to leave my mark yet keep it friendly. I'm no burglar. I'm just a curious cat....a lonely curious cat.

Moving on, I tiptoed through their living room, my eyes sharply prying to catch a glimpse of something that could be used against them...but there was nothing.

The space was tidy, with pictures hung neatly on the wall. I could see their family photo. A man, his wife and their three adorable kids. One should be around my age.

Then a thought struck me. "I could leave gifts for them as a token of my sincerity". I smiled feeling the surge of seratonin flow through my veins.

I put my hands in my pocket and brought out some cash which I kept right in the middle of their table and a short note that read...

"From your unknown friend".

I sneaked out quickly to avoid being discovered and as I walked back to my home, I smiled at my mischievousness.

I was dying to know who this person was and why they did this every year, particularly during the fourth week of May. Nick said he was the hostel head of Hall 45, but that didn't seem to fit the mysterious actions. It had become a tradition for me to sneak into my hostel mates' bunks and drop off gift items during this time. My birthday always fell within this period, and I loved sharing it with everyone around me. Keeping such secrets wasn't easy, and carrying out the surprise visits wasn't without its challenges. However, I was glad that I had managed to keep it going for the past four years, and I wasn't planning on stopping anytime soon. The thrill and joy it brought to my fellow students made it all worthwhile.

Ever since Katie joined our school, she has drawn all attention to herself. It's annoying how I'm no longer the center of attraction. The worst part is that she doesn't seem to care about the attention.

Katie keeps to herself, has no friends, and talks to no one. yet whenever she walks past, all attention goes to her, and it makes me want to strangle her.

There's this special scarf that I noticed she doesn't do without. She uses it to cover her face, what could she be hiding. I thought of teaching her a lesson by stealing the scars from her, so I sneaked into her room at night, made my way quietly and found her asleep, I carefully unwrap the scarf and was shocked to discover a terrifying scar on her left cheek.

Now I understood why she was always distant, keeps to herself and always hide her face, I felt so sad for her and decided to leave her a gift she would cherish all her life, a beauty cream that would make the scar dissappear forever so that Katie can her life back.

I left the gift on her drawer with a note and quietly exited.
