Pohela Boishakh: Tradition that is followed by Bengali's
There's a tradition in Bangladesh which is "Pohela Boishakh" it means Bengali new year. This is one of the most famous tradition in our country. On this event people from every religion joins and celebrate it together. There's also big fairs held for this special event.
When we meet each other we would say "Shuvo Nobo Borsho" it means happy new year. Some of you might not understand about this tradition so I will explain briefly. Basically it's the first day of the Bengali calendar it is cultural and holds a historical significance for Bengalis all over the world.
Every year it is celebrated on 14 April, we welcome this day with immense joy and enthusiasm.
The day begins with the beautiful traditional song “Eso Hey Boishakh," I have shared the song with you guys, feel free to check it out.
On this special day I always wake up early in the morning. Wear the new clothes which I have bought only for this day and it is a traditional attire. I prefer to wear panjabi and other men sometimes wear kurta pajamas. On the other hand my wife and my daughter wears red and white multicolor saree. The white and red color symbolizes purity and joy.
Food plays an important role on this day. Traditional dish such as panta ilish (fermented rice with fried hilsa fish), are supposed to be the meal of the day and we always go outside with family at a restaurant for this kind of food. Panta ilish is a must eaten food, unless that Pohela Boishakh doesn't start for us.
It can be made at home but we go out for the special occasion. As for dessert we decide to order sondesh, pitha and roshogolla. After finishing our food we plan to visit the fairs next because our daughter loves to be there and there's always a huge crowd at the place.
On the fair you can find handicrafts and traditional clothes. To be honest Pohela Boishakh promotes harmony among each and every communities for that reason I treasure this day very much.
Some people prefers to celebrate this day with their friends but most the people like me will enjoy it more with their family. To my readers if you wanna enjoy this day then must visit Bangladesh because it's an amazing tradition, and I hope many people from other countries will enjoy it too.
