Hot pad made from Macrame cord-May: Kitchen Hacks and DIYs
Hello, friends and community!
Greetings! ✔️ The deadline is May 30th. Before I submit my second entry for this contest, I wanted to share that yesterday I made a macramé heart-shaped hot pad as a birthday gift for my close friend, who appreciates simple handmade items. I wasn't sure if I could complete it in one sitting, but I did it and am excited to post it as my entry in the community.
Material I used:
Mostly, it is a 5mm macrame cord
Scissors
measuring tape
maskintape
Comb
My wooden fork from the kitchen
2 marking pins
First, I cut three different lengths of macrame cord.
10x 110cm
6x 90 cm
8x 25 cm
I used masking tape to secure the ends and prevent unraveling. My last experience taught me how to properly secure the ends of macramé cords. When working with cotton macramé, the ends tend to unravel, making it very difficult to work with at the finishing point.
How to make a Lark's head knot.
I started with tying 110 cm cords on the wooden rod (I don't have any so I used my kitchen wooden fork).
Tied 10 pieces of cords 110cm in the center.
then, 3 cords of each side measure 90cm.
To know the difference, I marked it using the sewing pins
Started making Square knots.
How to make square knot.
Leaving A, B, C cords without knotting started making square knots from the rod kept 2cm distance to start this 1st row.
In this line, I made only 4 square knots.
In this row, I included 1 cord from each side, 1 and 4, and 1 1 from the center 2,4, and continued the row making square knots.
2nd row here made 6 knots.
Here I included the A,last cord from left, B, the 2 center cords, and C, the right last and started knotting and this row finished with 8 square knots.
Now I started including the small cords made 25cm in length.
On each end, I attached 2 cords, making Lark's knot.
Like this.
Leaving 1 and 2 no cords, continued the row here, used the center cords J to make the joint, and finished the row.
Here, I included both end cords to create the curved shape of a heart and continued knotting this row, but I left those small cords without knots.
After finishing that row, I attached 2 more 25cm cords on both ends. each side has 2 cords tied to the last cord.
In the next row, the A and B cords helping to make other curve but attached cords of 25 cm would stayed without knots.
Now I started making knots from the left end to the right end.
Here is the row finished.
Those all rows I left 2 cords from each end, without knots, reducing knots in each row, created the heart shape.
Up to this point, I have left all the cord ends and reduced the knots in each row. The remaining cords were in the last two rows.
It looked like after the knotting was finished.
The work has been removed from the wooden rod.
Used scissors and cut them.
Here, it looked like after cutting all the side cords.
Used a comb for unraveling.
Cut in evenly looks like a heart shape.
Here is the final result.
