My entry in the Shadow Hunters SMASh Contest - Round #400: Parallel shadows! [Eng/Esp]
A big hello to all the friends at Shadow Hunters! Finally we come to the Smash contest round #400! A true testament to perseverance, this community event has been going strong for almost 8 years, bringing together shadow and photography enthusiasts. My sincerest congratulations, and of course, I couldn't miss participating in such a special contest. Since last week, I've been thinking about what shadow I could capture, planning the location and time of day, but in the end, I let chance and the entropy of my city reveal to me the shadow I was meant to share with you.
The days went by and I couldn't find that shadow that held any meaning for me. Then yesterday I had to go get the car battery replaced. It was something I'd been saving up for for months, and it was now or never because the devaluation of the peso was literally wiping out my salary. We headed to the auto repair shop, and I took my phone, fully charged, to try and capture some spot, some corner, or some monument that would cast that special shadow. Even though it was early and a bright, sunny day, bad luck was on my side, and I couldn't find anything interesting. We bought the battery, and the installation and test drive were faster than I expected. I didn't even have time to go out and hunt for a shadow; the whole process took less than 40 minutes before we were already on our way home. Frustrated, I stared out the window as we drove along the Libertador Avenue highway, which connects downtown Caracas to the east. It was there that I found my moment. Chance had placed me at the right time and place to capture the shadows cast by the horizontally arranged supports of the avenue. These wonderful parallel shadows fell across the pavement. It was still early, so the rising sun gave the shadows that angled effect on the mural, which was made up of a mosaic of colors. If you look closely at the shadow and the mural in the background, it seems as if the mural is in 3D relief, but it is simply painted at angles to create that effect.

Taking these photos with the car in motion wasn't easy. Most of the time, they came out blurry because of the movement. So, I activated the phone's timer function, kept the phone still, and prayed that at least a couple of photos would come out sharp and with the desired effect. Luckily, many of the shots turned out great. This avenue descends to connect the northern and southern avenues of Caracas via bridges; therefore, the shadows we see are the supports of the structure that connects both avenues. Finally, and most interestingly, plants grow from the upper sections of the avenue, creating broad shadows that merge with the parallel ones, resulting in a truly magnificent composition of shadows and colors in the mural.

Well, friends, this was my contribution, my gift for this 400th Smash contest! It was truly satisfying to simply let things flow and allow causality, in its entropic mechanism, to link the moments and circumstances that led me to this precise moment, and more importantly, to be able to capture it clearly with my camera! Un gran saludo amigos de Shadow Hunters! Finalmente llegamos al concurso Smash round #400! Una verdadera demostración de perseverancia, casi 8 años de este evento de comunidad que sigue integrando amantes de las sombras y la fotografía. Mis más sinceras felicitaciones y por supuesto, no podía dejar de participar en tan especial concurso, y desde la semana pasada estaba pensando que sombra podría traer, planificar el lugar y la hora del día, pero al final dejé que la causalidad y la entropía de mi ciudad me mostrarán por sí solas, la sombra que debía compartir con ustedes.
Los días pasaban y no podía conseguir aquella sombra que tuviera algún significado para mi, entonces ayer tuve que ir a cambiar la batería del carro, era algo para lo que había estado reuniendo durante meses y era ese día o nunca porque la devaluación literalmente esta desintegrando mi salario. Nos pusimos en marcha al electro-auto y llevé mi móvil cargado al 100% para tratar de capturar algún lugar, alguna esquina o monumento que generara esa sombra especial y aunque era temprano y hacía un día radiante, la mala fortuna me perseguía y no encontraba nada interesante. Compramos la batería, el proceso de instalación y prueba del auto fue más rápido de lo que esperaba no me dió tiempo de salir a cazar alguna sombra, el proceso no tardo ni 40 minutos cuando ya estábamos de regreso a casa. Frustrado me quedé mirando por la ventana y pasamos por la autopista de la avenida Libertador que conecta el centro de Caracas con el este y fue alli que encontré el momento, la causalidad me había puesto en el momento y la hora adecuada para captar las sombras que generaba los soportes de la avenida dispuestos horizontalmente generaban estas maravillosas sombras paralelas en el pavimento, aun era temprano así que el sol que despuntaba del este le daba esa inclinación a las sombras en el mural formado por un mosaico de colores que si te quedas viendo la sombra y el mural de fondo pareciera que el mural estuviera en relieve 3D pero esta simplemente pintado en ángulos para generar ese efecto.

No fue fácil tomar estas fotografías con el auto en movimiento, la mayoría de las veces salían difuminadas por el movimiento, así que lo que hice fue activar la función de temporizador del teléfono y mantener inmóvil el teléfono y orar para que al menos un par de fotos salieran nítidas y con el efecto deseado. Por suerte salieron geniales muchas de las capturas. Esta avenida desciende para conectar mediante puentes las avenidas norte y sur de Caracas, por eso, las sombras que vemos son los soportes de la estructura que conecta ambas avenidas. Por último y más interesante es que desde las partes superiores hay plantas que crecen en los salientes superiores de la avenida y generan amplias sombras que se fusionan con las paralelas generando una composición verdaderamente magnífica entre las sombras y los colores del mural.

Bien amigos este fue mi aporte, mi regalo para este concurso No 400 de Smash! La verdad que fue muy satisfactorio simplemente dejar que las cosas fluyeran y que la causalidad en su entrópico mecanismo, encadenara los momentos y circunstancias que me llevaron a este preciso momento y más importante aún, poder capturarlo de forma nítida en mi cámara! Como mencionaste lo mejor es dejar el destino, hacer su trabajo y que las sombras lleguen cuando tengan que llegar, lo importante es que la conseguiste a tiempo y más aún que el hardfork no te impidió continuar tu misión de publicar todos los días.
