Community: The Strength Of Imperfect People.

I can't remember being taught how to co-exist with people, during my primary education we did a subject, social studies, and even we weren't really taught to coexist or live with people, as I begin to advance in my education, what I can remember we were being taught or pushed to do was to do group work, group projects and such..

I learned to live and coexist with people in the streets, there we survived and rugged things together, each and everyone has his/her own wounds, scar, sorrow and all.

There was a time I was very sick I was so weak, I was already looking pale then, and even I wondered if I would get better or be normal again....back then what held me wasn't just medicines and injections, it was people, I have a neighbor we rarely talk, she was all about me, cooking, washing and all, there were friend's too, people from church came, prayed and all, family members too were present, all trying their best, leaving their work and all.

My community is already a part of me, my community is me, aside the family members, they are family already, they are meant to stay right, but even I have witnessed someone who every family member turn their backs on, that aside, what about the people I don’t even expect, that stayed, they taught me something school never did.

I believe it's not until we have much before we can do something, there are word of reassurances, there's listening to a persons heart cry, we can give advice, say a word of encouragement, visit, give the little you can there are times it might just be a smile from us.

The lesson I learn hits deep, it's not one I can forget in a hurry, community to me is not necessarily many people, it can even be one person who has decided to stand, to come, to smile, to wait, to give, to advice or to show up for you. We can see through ourselves and do well in helping each other, a mechanic told my neighbor to pay later after he has fixed his car, he said he knew he's broke and the vehicle is his source of income, so he would help fix it snd my neighbor can pay later..... what's that
A simple thing like asking a sick person how's your body now goes a very long way in healing.

Not as if it's always rosy, communit my breaks too they gossip, hurt and can misunderstand you, but when life comes rushing st you, this same people even though imperfect they are, they still come around, they visit when you are sick, they do the little they can to help, they attend your weddings, they just make sure to be present. Even if they hardly have solutions, they have presence.

And that's how many of us survive, not because we all have it easy, but we have one another. We can't always stand straight and tall, there are times we need to lean on someone else... So when life comes st you, pressing you down, people are the ones who help you to rise again.

All pictures are mine.
