My Honest Take on Parenting

I am not yet a parent, but I believe I will be one someday. All things being equal, raising a child is never easy. It comes with many trials and requires a great deal of effort.

Some people believe that letting a child suffer or go through pain will toughen them up and prepare them to survive in the world. Others, however, believe their children shouldn't suffer at all they feel they’ve already gone through enough pain and hardship, and there's no need for their children to walk the same path.

Where I Stand

Personally, I have always believed that my child or children should never go through what I have endured in life. If I have labored and eventually succeeded, there is absolutely no reason for my children to start from square one and rebuild what I’ve already established. I believe I am the foundation for my kids, and it is my duty to clear the path for them.

They don’t need to walk when they can fly on my wings. I cannot be eating two square meals a day or sometimes just one then succeed and still subject my child to that same level of hardship, just because I want to make them "tough" or "strong."

Let’s be reminded that being hard on children doesn’t always make them better. Yes, discipline has its place, but we must never forget that human beings are complex, with minds of their own. A child who is subjected to unnecessary suffering in the name of tough love might end up rebelling, feeling that despite all the parent has achieved, they still chose not to help.

What I Will Do

I will raise my child in love, teaching them how the world works, but never by subjecting them to the same pain I went through. I will guide them the best way I know how and provide everything they need to survive and thrive, as long as I have the resources to do so.

A child who is determined to be useful will be. My duty as a parent is to guide them and provide for their needs with love.

Lastly let me drop this here, before my dad died, he will always tell us that his children will not suffer like him and honestly though we don't have much, we aren't suffering like my dad. He said his children must go to school because he didn't and right now we already have 2 graduates in the house. We are surviving through the things he left behind (what a great man you are Dad)..
