“This is a village forgotten by God,” a woman told me as I was taking these images.

Let me start from the beginning. Some time ago, I decided to travel to the countryside, to the far eastern end of my country. Along the way, in the middle of the mountains of Santiago de Cuba province, the train broke down and we had to wait. An unexpected situation, but a perfect opportunity to take photographs.

The place felt like something out of a mystery film. Although it was a typical rural Cuban village, I don’t know… there was a different atmosphere there.

In fact, the woman was right: the place was almost completely disconnected from the world around it.

People watched me with a curious, almost provocative gaze; for me, it couldn’t have been a better setting.

We stayed there for about an hour, until the train was fixed and we continued the journey. But those faces, in the middle of nowhere, have never left my mind.

Even now, when I look back at the images, I remember the woman’s words: the village God forgot.

So I say goodbye, dear friends. The year is coming to an end, and days of being with family are arriving, but above all, days of being at peace with oneself. Hugs 🤗 and I wish you all a happy end of the year.

“Este es un pueblo olvidado por Dios”, así me dijo una señora mientras tomaba estas imágenes.
Les cuento desde el principio. Hace un tiempo decidí hacer un viaje al campo, al otro extremo de mi país, hacia la región más oriental. En el camino, en medio de las montañas de la provincia de Santiago de Cuba, el tren se rompió y tuvimos que esperar. Una situación inesperada, pero perfecta para aprovechar y hacer fotos.
El lugar parecía salido de una película de misterio. Aunque era el típico pueblo rural cubano, no sé… había una atmósfera diferente allí.
De hecho, era verdad lo que decía la señora: el lugar estaba prácticamente desligado del mundo que lo rodeaba.
Las personas me observaban con una curiosidad provocadora; para mí, no pudo ser mejor escenario.
Allí estuvimos cerca de una hora, hasta que arreglaron el tren y continuamos el viaje. Pero esos rostros, en medio de la nada, nunca se me olvidarán.
Todavía hoy, al volver a ver las imágenes, recuerdo las palabras de aquella señora: el pueblo que Dios olvidó.
Entonces me despido, amigos queridos. Ya se termina el año y llegan días para estar en familia, pero sobre todo, para estar en paz con uno mismo. Abrazos 🤗 y que tengan un feliz fin de año.
