Tourist in Venice
What I see beyond the image

The image plunges me right into a Venetian canal, buzzing with human activity. In the foreground, several gondoliers, dressed in their characteristic striped shirts and straw hats, stand in or beside their gondolas, waiting for passengers or manoeuvring with dexterity. One of them, standing with oar in hand, seems to be at work, while others are chatting or resting, ready for the next trip. Inside the sleek black boats with blue and red interiors, tourists can be seen, some absorbed in the scenery, others simply enjoying the quiet ride. In the background, a stone bridge arches over the canal, crowded with people watching the same scene from another perspective, completing a picture that portrays the heart of the work and leisure that define Venice.
What the Image Makes Me Feel

My property
When I think of being there, and remember what you mention about the canals, a mixture of concern and awe comes to mind. It is true that, during that time, and in early 2023, Venice faced exceptionally low tides and a drought that exposed the muddy bed of some minor canals, making navigation difficult. However, as a tourist, the prevailing feeling is different. It is the feeling of walking through a place that seems suspended in time. Despite any inconvenience, the magic is not broken. You feel history beneath your feet, the murmur of a thousand languages around you and an architectural beauty that overwhelms you at every step. It is a serene happiness, that of knowing you are a lucky spectator of a unique spectacle in the world, where even a low water level becomes part of the unforgettable anecdote of the journey.
The Anecdote Behind It All

My property
My trip to Venice was all the more memorable because I was invited by local friends. They welcomed me as if I were family, showing me the less touristy side of the city, where cultural diversity is evident around every corner and spontaneous encounters enrich every day. One of my favourite images is of an elderly lady whose balcony, always overflowing with impeccable flowers, overlooked the canal where the gondolas passed by. It was common to see her leaning out, waving with a smile to those who crossed underneath; her flowers seemed a gift to all passers-by and boaters. I shared several chats with her and learned about the love for the small gestures that embellish everyday life. The hospitality I received, from the cafés where the baristas remembered my order to the impromptu strolls with people from different parts of the world, made me feel part of a warm Venice, full of stories and authentic humanity.
