Una introducción necesaria

Escribir en cada iniciativa de @holos-lotus es un compromiso permanente porque siento que devuelvo parte de las muchas enseñanzas y ayudas que me han dado en la comunidad. Por eso, siempre intento participar. Pero, si las iniciativas involucran a personas vulnerables o niños, mujeres y ancianos ahí me tendrán en primera fila.

Tal es el caso de esta iniciativa propuesta por @emiliorios, un creador de contenidos comprometido con el mejoramiento humano que nos ha pedido sugerencias o consejos de dos adultos mayores que viven cerca de nosotros.

En mi caso, quiero decir que ya había hecho un trabajo mucho más amplio con algunos adultos mayores de mi trabajo a los que les hice historias de vida porque el día 21 de julio mi instituto y el de ellos cumple 58 años, además, el 26 de julio celebramos el Día Internacional del Abuelo por lo que, entre otras cosas, les pedí sus valoraciones, sobre varios temas relacionados con la vida y sus enseñanzas.

De uno de ellos estaré hablando en esta iniciativa y, de la otra es de Una mujer que quise mucho, que fue como mi segunda madre y que en septiembre cumplirá un año fuera del mundo terrenal, pero que vivimos muchas cosas juntos porque fue la madre de mi cuñado y como una segunda madre para mí.

El Geólogo mayor

El primero de mis invitados es un investigador destacado de mi país, un hombre que a sus 84 años nos sigue regalando lecciones de vida y ejemplo de entrega y amor por lo que hace. Es Geólogo de profesión y amante de la vida por vocación. Su nombre es Nyls Gustavo Ponce Seoane.

Antes de venir a vivir para la capital del país y trabajar en el Instituto de Geología y Paleontología muchos de los investigadores eran referentes para mí y los utilizaba como referentes obligados en mis clases de Geografía. Nunca pensé tener el privilegio de trabajar con ellos, realizar proyectos de investigación juntos y mucho menos poder entrevistarlos o que me incluyeran en la lista de sus amistades o compañeros preferidos.

Al preguntarle a Nyls por qué sigue trabajando a sus 84 años me dejó una sentencia que pareciera estarle oyendo a mi madre: Uno debe hacer lo que ama hasta el día de su muerte porque cuando dejas de tener ese latido constante en el estómago o ese brillo permanente en los ojos ya estás dejando de existir y todavía siento volar esas mariposas en mi estómago y tengo faros en los ojos.

Así que su primer consejo fue: Nunca te jubiles de lo que amas.

En otro momento de la conversación le pedí que me dijera tres cosas importantes en su vida y que me las ubicara por orden de prioridad. Su respuesta fue una clase magistral y aquí lo dejo. Me dijo esas tres cosas son:

Me respondió. Si cuido de mi familia tengo salud, si rindo en el trabajo tengo dinero y mantengo a mi familia, si mi familia tiene salud, es alegre y vive bien tengo la vida asegurada. Así que la familia es salud, es riqueza, es amor y es vida.

Eugenia, Mima o mi segunda madre

Por increíble que parezca, esta mujer se murió sin saber leer ni escribir.

En los casi 30 años que nos conocimos jamás la vi leer ni escribir y sus tres hijos, entre ellos mi cuñado me aseguraron que no sabía hacerlo.

Sin embargo, nunca la vi levantar la voz ni maltratar a nadie. Con ella viví momentos que conservo para toda la vida y me dio lecciones de vida que junto a las de mi madre forman parte de mi catálogo de vida.

Una vez le pregunté lo que más admiraba de los seres humanos y sin dudarlo me respondió: El respeto, la sencillez, los buenos modales. Ella me dijo que los mayores atributos que tienen las personas son sus valores porque son su carta de presentación y eso no lo da la universidad, se cultivan y se ganan con el ejercicio de la vida.

Lo otro que le pregunté fue cómo logró educar a sus tres hijos tan bien, a pesar de no tener un grado de escolaridad elevado y me dijo algo que me parecía salir de la boca de mi madre: Los eduqué con mi ejemplo personal. Ellos nunca me vieron robar, maltratar a alguien, siendo deshonesta o faltando a mi palabra de honor.

Y concluyó: “Si quieres que alguien sea bien educado, hazlo desde el ejemplo personal”

In the almost 30 years that we met, I never saw her read or write and her three children, including my brother-in-law, assured me that she did not know how to do it.

However, I never saw her raise her voice or mistreat anyone. With her I lived moments that I keep for the rest of my life and she gave me life lessons that, together with my mother's, are part of my life catalog.

I once asked him what he admired most about human beings and without hesitation he answered: Respect, simplicity, good manners. She told me that the greatest attributes that people have are their values because they are their letter of introduction and that is not given by the university, they are cultivated and earned with the exercise of life.

The other thing I asked her was how she managed to educate her three children so well, despite not having a high degree of schooling, and she told me something that seemed to come from my mother's mouth: I educated them by my personal example. They never saw me steal, mistreat anyone, being dishonest or breaking my word of honor.
