Bridging the Gap: The Mother in-law i Envisage; LOH#284

Hello #ladies.
For this weeks prompt, i will be answering question two because its seeks to draw me closer to the life and ways i would prefer and pray my older self should live.

I have grown to see the struggles between
daughters in-law and mothers-in-law. I have also seen the ones that are very loveable. From my experiences, most times, the issue is not really about the individuals except in some exceptional cases, but the struggle of understanding the different generations.

!!!!! There is always a gap!!!

Both generations see life differently. Therefore, understanding the gap and knowing how to fill the gap for the younger generation is what brings joy and peace to both parties. some mother-in-laws had understood the gap earlier enough and that makes them love and accept their daughter's in-law as their own, but some never believes that this gap exist and that is where a lot of misunderstanding comes in.

For me, I got married into the family where my both parents in-law are late. Most times, i find myself wishing they were still alive. I wish i had them to hold my hands when things feels hard, i wish i had their shoulders to lean on the days i feel week, i wish they were around to send words of hope and encouragement when life seems confusing. i wish they were here for my children, to hold them and tell them stories and to share that love that comes from grandparents.

But sometimes i also come to the understanding that maybe things may not have been the way i imagined, because life has taught me that not everyone from the older generations is able to give the support the younger people needs. Most times, some are not equipped, and some only give what they have, and
by so doing some resort to staying in the place of authority and control and thinking that the best of what they could offer is the best of what the young generations need. Thus, being a good mother-in-law comes from the place of wholeness, love, and acceptance.
This experience changed something in me, and when it's my turn, i would want to do better.

Therefore, i seek to be a mother-in-law who understands the gap between generations and making efforts to bridge it
I seek to be a mother-in-law whose love is not biased but full of hope.
I seek to be a mother-in-law whose valuables are worth learning from.
I seek to be a mother-in-law who transfers faith and not control.

Let me stop here because this writing is coming from a place of deep reflection, thoughts, and wishes that have clouded my mind since i saw this prompt.
