Moments I stayed True to Myself

Good day, people of Hive! Welcome to my blog. Today's topic is from Ladies of Hive, which says:

Looking back over your life, what are the moments that you are proudest of, where you stayed true to your core beliefs? So let's dive in.

Honestly, when I look back at my life, I can’t help but remember certain moments that shaped me and tested what I truly believed in. Life has a way of throwing challenges at us, and in those moments, it’s very easy to compromise just to make things easier. But I’m proud of the times when I didn’t give in, when I stood firm in my beliefs.

It was during 200 level when I was faced with an exam that everyone in my department, including me, was desperate to pass. The course code was SOC 211 (History of Social Thought 1 & 2). Many people in my department had already prepared an “alternative” that would help them on the exam day; some even offered to share it with me, but I refused, saying I didn’t need it because I don’t have the mind for such. Although it was very tempting, let me say seventy percent of us had not fully prepared because the course was so hard, and throughout the semester we only did presentations. We always had the class every Thursday, but the lecturer didn’t come regularly. Anytime he was around, that’s when we would do the presentations.

Before the presentations, the lecturer had already grouped us into fifteen groups, and each group had ten members. He gave each group different scholars’ names to research and present everything about them, including the books they wrote—just everything about the scholars. During the last presentation, he gave us A.O.C. (Area of Concentration). He listed ten scholars’ names out of the fifteen, telling us to focus on them because he was going to ask for five during the exam. The funniest part is that those scholars were ancient, and we had already written everything about them.

Like I said earlier, it was tempting because we hadn’t fully prepared for the course, and the fear of failing was already weighing on us. But deep inside me, I knew that giving in would not just be cheating on the exam, but also cheating myself. I told myself that even if I failed the course, it was better than cheating. During the exam, I tried my best, and out of the five scholars’ names that came out, I knew three very well. I managed the remaining two as best as I could. When the results came out, I was surprised because I passed the course with a better grade than I was even expecting. I was so proud of myself because I did it without cheating.

Also, there was a day someone in my department insulted me because of a misunderstanding. I was badly hurt and angry because I wasn’t the one who said what she accused me of saying. Everyone in my department was expecting me to fight back. Although I really wanted to, I remembered my brother’s advice that I should always stay away from trouble and never allow anger to control me because trouble usually leads to something bigger. So instead of fighting back, I just walked away. To my surprise, a week later, the same person who insulted me needed my help. Honestly, I didn’t want to help her because of what she said to me, but I remembered that we don’t know tomorrow. I may also need her help one day. That’s why I helped her.

In conclusion, I learned that staying true to yourself is not always easy. Sometimes it makes you look weak, and sometimes it makes you feel alone. But in the end, those moments are the ones that give us real strength.

This is my entry for the Ladies of Hive Community Contest.

Thanks for reading💞💞💞💞💞.

Staying true to yourself is mostly challenging but brings out our true strength when we conquer.

Yes, because I stayed to my belief and didn't cheat that's why I was able to conquer my exam.

Saying no to everyone else and trusting your own brain even when a shortcut was staring you in the face, that is gutsy. Getting through that tough SOC 211 exam fair and square? That is quiet proof that integrity can actually pay off. And walking away instead of throwing punches when someone trashed you, that self control after a hurt feels harder than any test. You didn’t just pass exams, you passed life’s tougher tests.

This situation sounds familiar in my long past.

Back then, I wasn't very good at following good advice.
