Good day, people of Hive! Welcome to my blog. Today’s topic is from Ladies of Hive, so let’s dive in.

Belief in omens or signs exists all around the world. For example, in Yoruba culture, black cats are often seen as a sign of bad luck, danger, or spiritual activity. Some people even say witches use the black cat as a disguise. Meanwhile, other cultures may see black cats differently and give them a completely different meaning. When some people hear how Yoruba people view black cats, they call it superstition and say it’s not true. Let me share something that happened to me.

I was in school receiving lectures, and it happened to be on a Tuesday. I was feeling pressed, so I took permission from the lecturer and went to the toilet. After I was done and was going back to class, I saw a fellow student selling meat pies. I expected the meat pie to be around #500, but she said it was #1,000, although it was a big one. That day, I really felt like buying it because I was hungry and have heard so many people compliment the meat pie, saying it’s very sweet. But I didn’t have any money to buy it that day, I only have my transport fare to get me back home.

When I got home, I told my brother and roommate about it, and they promised to buy it for me next time because they also didn’t have money at that moment. But honestly, I was still craving that meat pie. So in my mind I was like; "please God send someone to give me money, even if it’s just #1,000, so I could buy the meat pie". I also prayed for a sign that my prayer had been answered.

Not long after that, I started feeling restless as if something what to happen. After 3 minutes of my prayer, my brother called me to his room and told me to check my account because our eldest sister had sent him #10,000. When I checked mine, lo and behold, I also saw #10,000 had been credited to my account. I quickly called her to show my gratitude and prayed for her. My brother was like, “You’ve seen money to buy that meat pie.”

That whole day, I was just happy because of the money. The next day, I went to school and bought the meat pie and ate it. When I got home and was sitting in my room, a thought came to my mind: maybe God answered my prayer, and the restlessness I was feeling was the sign He gave me to show He heard me.

I believe everyone receives signs in different ways. Some people may dream about someone they haven’t seen in a long time, and the next day, they meet that same person, and they’ll be surprised. Others may dream about getting promoted at work, and when they get to the office the next day, they receive a letter of promotion.

Some people believe that signs come from God. For example, we may plan to go somewhere, but our mind keeps telling us not to go. Then we decide to stay back. Later, you hear that something bad happened in that place, like an accident. You’ll be surprised and ask yourself, “Was that a sign from God,” and truly, it was.

Even in Yoruba culture, they believed that if a bird suddenly cries at your window at night, especially if it has never happened before it’s a sign that something wants to happen, whether good or bad.

For me, signs are not about proving anything to others. They are personal. What feels like a sign to me might look like nothing to you or someone else.

In conclusion, signs do exist for many people. They may not always come through shooting stars or big dreams, but they show up in the little things that happen around us.

Yes trusting God is really important because He's the only one who can keep His promise and never fail it.
