DO YOU FORGIVE AND FORGET? || LOH CONTEST #250
If forgiveness is especially beneficial for those who are able to let go of past grudges, the invitation to reflect upon is: Do we always have to forgive? Why forgive someone who doesn't deserve forgiveness? Should we always forgive? Share your thoughts.
Forgiveness is a topic everyone considers in their own opinion. this week's prompt is really so endearing to me because I've sat in conversations and heard people talk about forgiveness and its almost fascinating how people can have different opinions on such a topic we could consider to be not so controversial. so, since this week's prompt is asking me my two cents on this topic. here it is:
we always have to forgive. if not for anything but for ourselves. Besides as Christians, how can we ask God for forgiveness when we do not forgive others? there are so many verses talking about forgiveness to show its importance and essence in our lives. Mark 11:25, Luke 11:4, Matthew 6:12.....these verses talk about how important forgiveness is.
To be honest, I did a further research and I am really astounded as to the information out there. The Islamic law still talks about forgiveness and the word 'forgiveness' is mentioned about 234 times with the Quran stating that Allah forgives all sins. correct me if I'm wrong on any of these facts.
Everyone deserves forgiveness. even the people we think do not deserve forgiveness still do. and this all still gets down to the Golden rule of doing unto others what we want to be done to us and if we want to be forgive, we must also forgive others. Matthew 18:21-22 and you can read other verses really answered the question of people deserving forgiveness because there he said you must forgive seventy seven times and we must understand that this symbolically means countless times and
also the story of the debtor whom his master forgave but could not forgive his fellow slave who owed him lower than he even owed his master who waived his own. is the slave right in not forgiving his fellow slave when he himself was forgiven? what is your answer? mine is no! a deaf person upon hearing the story would answer the same.
If these religious answers do not do it for you. then, remember that forgiving is for yourself and nobody else. not only does it give you peace, Also it is always important that we forgive because "
Studies have found that the act of forgiveness can reap huge rewards for your health, lowering the risk of heart attack; improving cholesterol levels and sleep; and reducing pain, blood pressure, and levels of anxiety, depression and stress"(see https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/wellness-and-prevention/forgiveness-your-health-depends-on-it)
Howeverrrrrr, i have quite the opinion when i say forgiving does not mean forgetting . A lot of the times, we hear, 'forgive and forget . remembering however does not mean keeping grudges or keeping count nor is it dwelling on whatever it is that happened. do you agree with this ort not? let me know.
