We do not know the value of a thing until we have been denied of it and have had to endure the pain of not having it. This is why a lot of privileged people tend to undermine the pain others go through because they do not know how it feels to go through it. A child born with a silver spoon in their mouth can not understand the desire of another child whose only dream is to break free from the holds of poverty. No matter how empathetic they may be, they would never know how it feels and that says a lot about the winning mentality.

When it comes to life there is one person I’m often afraid of, and that is the man that has everything to lose and is ready to give everything to win, and the man I am always afraid for is the man that does not know what it means to lose because he has always won. It is often not easy for those in these positions to change status, but when they eventually do, everything about them automatically changes. For the latter, it becomes a dream come true, and for the other, it becomes a nightmare.

This is why I believe loss is an essential part of life and more losses helps us do two things, First it shows us a way that doesn’t work, and second it helps us appreciate the little wins. There are those who get lucky and get a lot of wins, and there are those who after plenty of losses finally get one breakthrough win. The mindset and work rate of both persons will be different, while one works hard with the thought of winning, the other does so with the hope of winning but also considers the possibility of losing and is more careful. In essence, losing humbles us.
