In my country Nigeria, around this time of the year we mostly celebrate the Christmas holidays and other traditional festivals that comes up because it is believed that during the holidays family is gather at their home town to celebrate hence it is a perfect time to organize traditional festivals so that they would be maximum participation.

Although I am not familiar with international types of traditions or holidays celebrited around the end of the year but hopefully one of our traditional festivals that I would love to attend is the Osun-Osogbo festival which happens every August in Osogbo, Osun state.

The Osun-Osogbo festival is one that is held in high esteem because it encompasses a total celebration of osun state the Yoruba goddess of fertility, love and healing.

The people of this community do not take this Festival for granted and they dedicate a whole day into its celebration. From my experience of videos and pictures I have seen online that makes me want to have a physical experience is the beautiful pictures of the environment which includes the Sacred Grove, music and drumming, the blessings and the numerous prayers involved and so on.

The most important part is the Sacred Grove where is the dominant Heritage site for osun state, it has even become like a tourist center for people to see the area before they leave.

The features of this place includes the fat that it has ancient trees built all around the place, there are sculptures of different deities and persons who has had great impact in the community in the past. Also in the Sacred Grove there are shrines that are which brings about a sense of spirituality, tradition and indigenous cultures.

Also, I heard there is a river where people go to pray for different kind of blessings such as fertility, healing, spiritual cleansing and so many more.

This is my participation in the @ladiesofhive community weekly contest, to join in check through this link

Many holidays are celebrated this time of year: Hannukah in the Jewish tradition, Yule/Solstice in Neo-Pagan and ancient traditions, Christmas in Christian households, Bodhi Day in some Buddhist traditions... Have you ever celebrated with others in a tradition that is NOT your own? If so, tell us about it. If not, would you consider it, and which holiday would you choose as your first such experience?
Thanks for stopping by my blog...
