My First Sweet Recipe, Introducing You All To Kunu// LOH Contest #257.
Hello family Hiii wonderful Ladies, it's the last Sunday in October Hurray, and for this special Sunday we have been presented with three contest topic at a go which makes everything spicy, so for the last Sunday of October we would be spicing it up as expected, in lights of that stay tuned and ready through with me.
2️⃣ What was the first dessert or sweet recipe you learned to make? We would love for you to share it with everyone.
While pondering on this specific topic I was now wondering what recipe I have learnt and I could remember learning how to bake cakes but that was awhile ago I can't remember when last I baked cake on my own so I might likely forget that special recipe that I was taught but I have chosen to talk about KUNU a very special and healthy drink, I know you might be saying this doesn't qualify to be classified as that supposed sweet recipe but to me I would prefer this to your cokes, fantas, or any other fancy packaged drink you buy out there, don't coat me wrong they are all good in one way or the other but this is one of the good drinks I have taken so far apart from hand made fruit juice and all of that, as a child growing up this was the first sweet recipe I was taught because my parents practically love drinking it.
Ingredients used for this sweet drink is depending on the quantity you want to produce out of it and your amount of ingredients available but what is used for this special drink is Dawa or maize (millet), dried sweet potatoes also know as dankali, kanaperi, cheta, cyru (germinated rice), some people put ginger either fresh or dried one cloves, groundnut, sugar (optional) and finally water. These are the Ingredients used In making KUNU, but you can actually see other people adding other ingredients that is according to their capacity because obviously all hands are not the same, then after getting all this Ingredients how do we mix them to produce out our special drink?
When you have gotten the amount of Dawa or maize you need, you then soak it with the groundnut in the same bowl over night probably 3 to 4 hours, then if your soak your dried sweet potatoes and other ingredient that are dried inorder for it to get soft for easy grinding, then you take it for grinding I separated bowls that's the millet and groundnut in one bowl while the dried sweet potatoes and other dried ingredients in another bowl, after it's been grinded you then boil water according to the quantity of what is grinded, so when the water boil you then pour it I side the grinded millet and groundnut which would already be looking like pap.
Immediately after that step is done, you pour your grinded dry potatoes, chita, kanaperi, clove, and ginger into the Dawa which would now start becoming watery because of the addition of these Ingredients. In most African homes we do this in the night and leave it till the next morning for the mixture to get cold before going forward, so when it gets cold you now sieve the chaff out of it because over here we don't drink kunu with the chaff in it, after it's ready you now turn it inside a container or anything of your choice.
Our special drink is ready, low budget, easy to produce and a very sweet drink to be used at any time or occasion, if I was asked about my best drink I would definitely mention kunu so if you have not tried it out before I bet you would never stop trying after going through my recipe. Thank you for stopping by, I still remain your favorite girl @graceze, it's my pleasure hosting you today see you all next time.
