The house that tell my story || LOH #255

Hello wonderful ladies of hive and welcome to my entry for this week. Although I have always watched from far and never really made any entry to this community, I can tell that each week’s topic gets more challenging.
This week particularly, the topic is one that really gets you thinking so I decided to hop on it because I love a good challenge. With that being said, I would be going with the first topic, I hope you like it.

So let’s imagine thus; I have money to buy a house, and I have two option. Option one i go for a more affordable house with its years behind it and refurbish it to my liking or I take a fresh house that cost more, and isn’t as aesthetically pleasing as the older building.

I guess the most obvious answer would be to go for “Team buy everything ready and fast”. Because I mean it seems like the most reasonable and stress free thing to do after all the whole essence of buying your own place is for comfort. However, as unbelievable as this may come across, I would rather go for “Team repair to my liking”. As opposed to what you may be thinking regarding my choice, I would like you to stick with me because the reason for my answer has deeper meaning than you think. I have many reasons for this choice which I would love to classify under MY OBJECTIVE REASON and MY SUBJECTIVE REASON.

Looking at it objectively, I would go for the older house for two obvious reasons

1. The control factor: I would love to know that I have the financial liberty to renovate the house to my personal taste.

2. A Lasting Cause: This may come across as being paranoid but I have always grown to believe that older houses are stronger not just because it have pass the test of time, but because times have changed. Everyone sorts for faster and cheaper ways to make more money and constructors could be no less. There is no certainty that I’ll find comfort in a newer house for all we know the roof could be leaking or bad water connection or even worse, my investment could come crashing down.

Now this brings me to my final reason, my subjective reasoning. The truth is when I have the money to, I wouldn’t want to buy a house up front I more of a build my own home kind of person but even though this was not part of the option, it will however lead you to a deeper meaning as to why I would choose an old house over a new one.

Aside from the lasting cause and financial liberty, I would truely love to get a home that reflects me,my personality and my journey. I wouldn’t want to just buy a house for the luxury of it, but I would really love to document every process as a story that express the sleepless nights and determination that went into getting this apartment.

Those days I work tirelessly even when it seemed my body could not with stand it, does sleepless night I scarified forcing myself off my pillow as early as possible to get here.
I would love to design my own space in such a way that every corner tells a story of what I’ve bern through and where I have been. I would love to document every process and watch the once old house turn brand new to remind me that my dreams can always come live with a bit of hard work.

In essence, i choose to have a journey other than an entire fresh page.

So yeah that what I would go for and why I would go for it, I hope I didn’t over sell it.

This may come across as being paranoid but I have always grown to believe that older houses are stronger not just because it have pass the test of time, but because times have changed.

Where I live in Canada, that is quite true, most recent built houses and especially condominiums are structurally inferior to very minimum standards all in the pursuit of profit. Most condominium homes develop water envelope "Leaky Condos" as soon as two to three years after completion. What a mess. My small house was built before 1960 when materials and quality standards were so much better. It still needs some annual TLC ❤️.
