This week’s question is quite interesting. The moment I saw this question, I knew I had to join in.

Here we go..

You've earned the money to buy a house, and you have two options. The first is a big, beautiful house, but one whose best years are behind it. It needs a lot of repairs and remodeling, and therefore its price is low. The second option is a small house. It's not as beautiful as the previous one, but you don't have to invest time or money in repairs so its price is much higher than the previous one. What do you choose? Are you on the "repair to my liking" team or the "buy everything ready and fast" team?

I’m definitely on the the “buy everything ready and fast” team. My taste in house is not so complicated. I like my home cozy and comfortable. Yes, I want a really beautiful and modern house but as long as I can find a suitable place, I know I can make it home. It might seem more reasonable to go for the Big beautiful house but I have a number reasons why I wouldn’t.

Firstly, Because of some bad experience I’ve had in the past, I don’t want to live in a big big house with my family, the thought of being too far from each other is not one I welcome. A big house just feels like everything is too far apart.

I also wouldn’t want an overly small house but in this case, I think I’ll just imagine it’s not a really small house and go for it. I once lived in a big house that I had to speak to my brothers on the phone if the conversation wasn’t that important, because we get to lazy to move around or climb the stairs.

Also, renovating can be costly too. Going for the big house with a low cost might seem like a smart idea until you do the cost for the renovations. A house that has a lot of repairs is just a lot of work. Big house equals big money, especially because of maintenance and all that.

Thoughts like “what if I’m done with everything and one day realize there’s another problem somewhere that requires an extra cost to fix?” I’d rather not put myself through that stress. I don’t like to be taken unawares, I like to get everything in place and leave nothing to chance.

Although, the idea of remodeling the house in the exact way I want is really tempting, but I know myself and I overthink a lot, so in this case, I’ll skip the mental stress and go for the already made house. I wouldn’t mind spending the extra cash to buy and decorate this small house to my taste.

Even with redecorating cost for the smaller house, I might discover that the cost might be same or probably lower than what it would take to make the bigger house to my taste.

More expensive or not, I’d definitely go for the smaller one. Buying a house is an investment, and getting a house that would serve me long term is the goal. So spending a few extra money wouldn’t or shouldn’t be a problem when it comes to something as important as getting a house.
