My dinner with.../ LOH #240
We all have a historical figure who has marked a turning point in history in some way. Now, if I could invite five people to dinner, regardless of whether they are alive or dead, they would undoubtedly be
Louis XIV
Louis XIV, King of France, also known as the Sun King, ascended to the throne at the age of 4 or 5 and reigned from 1643 to 1715. His reign lasted 72 years, during which time France became a European power and a center of cultural and political influence.
His reign was characterized by being completely absolutist. The king exercised unlimited and centralized power, without control by other political or social bodies, but undoubtedly during those 72 years his country grew, so I would like to know on what he based his decisions.
Peter the Great
This tsar is known, among other things, for his efforts to modernize Russia. Born in 1672 and died in 1725, depending on one's perspective, for some he was a tyrant; for others, he was a reformer and legislator who broke with Russian traditions and succeeded in establishing Russia as a power.

The truth is that due to everything that happened after his father's death and when his sister Sophia was finally removed from power, Peter, who used to sneak out of the palace and visit foreigners living in Russia, was influenced and determined to modernize Russia in every aspect. For example, he ordered that long beards be removed and achieved a profound transformation of Russia politically, socially, economically, and culturally, modernizing it. Among his legacy is the founding of St. Petersburg, considered one of the most beautiful capitals in Europe and one of the cultural capitals of Europe and the world. I would like to ask him why, even in the face of so much opposition, he continued forward.
Simón Bolívar
I cannot leave out this illustrious Venezuelan, who held the title of “The Liberator,” as he was a military man and thinker who liberated five nations: Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia. He was born in 1783 and died in 1830.
Born into nobility and extremely wealthy, but with a very critical mind, which is attributed in part to the political events of the time and in part to his education by Andrés Bello and, above all, Simón Rodríguez, he followed the path begun by others to liberate his country. He could have stayed there, but knowing that for Venezuela to be totally free, he had to liberate the neighboring countries, he traveled to what would then become New Granada and other places, ending up liberating five countries, some of which formed part of Gran Colombia.
For me, in addition to Simón Bolívar's education, the upbringing he had with his nannies, La Negra Matea and La Negra Hipólita, influenced him. He was undoubtedly an excellent strategist, military man, and politician, a man ahead of his time who could see much of what would happen later. I would certainly ask Bolívar what motivated him to liberate five nations, dedicating 20 years of his life and part of his fortune to this cause.
Abraham Lincoln
Born and died in the 19th century, he was, in my opinion, one of the best presidents of the United States. He was a politician and lawyer who had to face a difficult historical moment in his country, as he led the United States during the Civil War, abolished slavery, strengthened the federal government, and modernized the economy.

He was a man who undoubtedly wanted great changes for his nation, and I believe that is why he was assassinated. I would like to know the reason for his convictions and what inspired him to make those changes, knowing that they would create opposition and enemies.
Martin Luther King Jr
Finally, a man who was born and lived in the 20th century, was a Baptist pastor and civil rights activist, Martin Luther King, was known for being an excellent speaker and did not believe in violence. He organized and led the Montgomery bus boycott in 1955. Among his most notable speeches is “I Have a Dream.”
He was criticized when it was discovered that he had a mistress. People always want to tarnish those who do something, but he was undoubtedly a fighter for equality in his time, to the point that he was assassinated to silence him. I would like to hear what inspired him to join this fight, which he knew would not be easy.

Luis XIV, Rey de Francia, también fue conocido como el Rey Sol, ascendió al trono a los 4 o 5 años, fue monarca desde 1643 hasta 1715. Su reinado duró 72 años, durante los cuales, Francia se convirtió en una potencia europea, en un centro de influencia cultural y política.
Su regencia se caracterizó por ser del todo absolutista. El rey ejercía un poder ilimitado y centralizado, sin control por parte de otros cuerpos políticos o sociales, pero sin duda durante esos 72 años su país creció, así que gustaría conocer en qué basó sus decisiones.
Pedro el Grande
Este zar es conocido, entre otras cosas, por empañarse en modernizar a Rusia, nacido en 1672, y fallecido de 1725, dependiendo de la óptica con la que se le viera para unos fue un tirano; para otros, un reformista y un legislador que rompió con las tradiciones de Rusia y logró situarla como una potencia.
Lo cierto es que debido a todo lo que ocurrió tras la muerte de su padre y cuando al fin su hermana Sofía es retirada del poder, Pedro que salía del palacio a escondidas y visitaba a los extranjeros que vivían en Rusia se vio influenciado y se empeñó en modernizar a Rusia en todo aspecto, ordeno por ejemplo que las largas barbas desaparecieran, logro una profunda transformación de Rusia, en lo político, social, económico y cultural, modernizándola, entre su legado se encuentra la fundación de San Petersburgo, considerada una de las capitales más bellas de Europa, y una de las capitales culturales de Europa y del mundo. A él, me gustaría preguntarle por qué, aún ante tanta oposición, siguió adelante.
Simón Bolívar
No puedo dejar por fuera a este ilustre venezolano, el cual ostento el título de “El Libertador”, pues fue un militar y pensador que liberó a cinco naciones. Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Perú y Bolivia. Nació en 1783 y falleció en 1830.
Noble de cuna, sumamente rico, pero con un pensamiento muy crítico, el cual se le atribuye en parte a los acontecimientos políticos históricos del momento y en parte a su educación, por parte de Andrés Bello y sobre todo de Simón Rodríguez, siguió el camino iniciado por otros para liberar a su país, pudo quedarse allí, pero sabiendo que para que Venezuela fuera totalmente libre debía liberar los países vecinos viajo a lo que entonces será Nueva Granada y otros sitios por lo que termino liberando cinco países de los cuales algunos formaron parte de la Gran Colombia.
Para mí además de la educación de Simón Bolívar, la crianza que tuvo junto a sus nodrizas la Negra Matea y la Negra Hipólita, influenciaron en él, fue sin duda un excelente estratega, militar y político, un hombre adelantado a su época que supo ver mucho de lo que acontecería luego, a Bolívar sin duda le preguntaría a qué se debió su empeño para liberar cinco naciones, dedicando 20 años de su vida y parte de su fortuna a esta causa.

Nació y murió en el XIX para mí uno de los mejores presidentes de EE. UU. fue un político y abogado, al que le toco enfrentar un fuerte momento histórico en su país, ya que lideró los Estados Unidos durante la guerra de Secesión, también abolió la esclavitud, fortaleció el gobierno federal y modernizó la economía.
Un hombre que sin duda deseaba grandes cambios para su nación y por ello creo que lo asesinaron, me gustaría conocer la razón de sus convicciones y que lo inspiró a realizar los cambios, sabiendo le crearían oposición y enemigos.

Finalmente, un hombre que nació y vivió en el siglo XX, fue un pastor bautista y activista por los derechos civiles, Martin Luther King, se caracterizó por ser un excelente orador y no creía en la violencia, organizo y acciono el boicot de autobuses en Montgomery, en 1955, entre sus discursos más destacados esta "I have a dream".
Fue criticado por descubrirse que tenía una amante, siempre quieren empañar a los que hacen algo, pero sin duda fue un luchador por la igualdad en su época, al punto de que lo asesinaron para callarlo. Me gustaría escuchar en qué se inspiró para sumarse a esta lucha que sabía, no sería nada fácil.

I also imagined it as a long evening where there might be differences of opinion, but undoubtedly unforgettable and enriching.
