Let's make a delicious village-style freshwater fish curry.
Good day to all Hive friends,
Village-style freshwater fish curry is one of those traditional dishes that truly brings back the essence of rural cooking—simple ingredients, slow cooking, and deep, comforting flavors. This dish carries a unique taste created from a beautiful blend of roasted spices, goraka, curry leaves, pandan, and the signature village-style spice mix.

Not only is this curry delicious, but it is also healthy, as it uses very little oil and relies entirely on natural flavors. Even the aroma alone reminds us of the warm kitchens in our villages and the wholesome meals shared lovingly with family.

Ingredients...
Freshwater fish 500g.
curry leaves.
1 Onion.
About 2 cloves of garlic.
3 Pis of Garcinia cambogia.
2 pods of green chillies.
2 pieces of cinnamon.
2 Teaspoon of pepper powder.
1 Teaspoon of meat curry powder.
1/2 Teaspoon of turmeric powder.
Salt as needed.
Some water.

The order of preparation.
Step 1:-
First, cut the freshwater fish into pieces, wash them well, and place them in a cooking bowl. Then add chili powder, black pepper powder, meat curry powder, turmeric powder, and salt, and mix everything well.
Meanwhile, finely chop the onion, garlic and pepper.

Step 2:-
Next, take a cooking pan and add two tablespoons of coconut oil. Place it on the stove, and once the oil heats up, add onions, garlic, curry leaves, green chilies, cinnamon, and goraka, and let them sauté for a while. Then add the seasoned fish pieces and mix well for about a minute.

Step 3:-
Now add about 1½ cups of water to the mixture and cook it for about 7 minutes. Then remove it from the stove.

Once the curry is prepared, you’re left with a rich, aromatic dish that pairs perfectly with warm rice, a side of mallum, or even a piece of roast bread. Village-style freshwater fish curry is more than just a meal—it’s a taste of tradition, simplicity, and home. It’s a delicious way to connect with our roots and enjoy the pure flavors of nature.
That’s all for today. I’ll return with another homely and flavorful recipe soon. Have a beautiful day!
