Friends Don't Lie

"We are good, I don't have quarrels with my wife", my friend who's married told me. Unknown to him I've been told how he almost beat his wife a few days ago. Thank God his wife was also a good pretender and I didn't want to bother them with a matter they chose to conceal. This seemed more like a family issue but there were other times he had lied, usually on matters he felt were personal and that was fine. Everyone battled with their personal lives and it was not my duty to dig out what had been buried.

Aside from a few personal lies, they're sincere with the other side of their stories. Friends don't lie because they are themselves among friends and there's no need for pretense. But it ends when one considers it to be more personal and to some extent I like it. The other time where friends lie is when their ego is at stake, oh, I have done this a lot of times and that's because I was protecting the image I was known for. It happened back in my secondary school days and I laugh hard each time I remember what transpired on that day.

I was shy and timid around girls, but my friends believed I was the bold type. Seeing how they exalt my personality in this regard, I was ready to always make them feel like I actually was. There was this girl I loved back then in school, but was scared to talk to her until that day when my friends were around. Decided to give it a try after so many rehearsals and browsing on pickup lines to use. I met her and everything I've learned was erased from my memory, the only thing I remember saying was "do you like me?" From someone who was going to woo a girl.

After all my gibberish, I was rejected with no chance to think about it, besides it was rubbish I was saying, and shivering all together. She even left me hanging there , but when I came back to my friends, I told them she almost wanted to say yes but I told her to think about it. It happens among friends and this is to protect our ego or save what's believed to be personal. Indeed friends don't lie, but when it comes to ego and personal life, friends lie without blinking.
