Beer Saturday - Beers with the Guys

beersaturday8 (2).png

The last couple weeks have been too busy in meatspace to contribute to #beersaturday but I am back in the saddle for Week 458. New or veteran, you are always welcome to pull up a pint and join @detlev and the gang at https://peakd.com/hive-187719/@detlev/beersaturday-458 | https://hive.blog//hive-187719/@detlev/beersaturday-458 with your post about beer.

In this 458th edition, I am chugging pints with the guys while doing guy stuff!

This week's Pint of the Week ticks the box of a pint on the town but also as one with the guys. One virtue of winter is having discovered an indoor golf place for the cold months. One virtue of golf is that it goes well with beer and this amber was delicious!

Brewing Beers!

Another fun activity to do with the guys is brewing a batch of our own. For my newest followers, a few friends operate a garage brewery, brewing approx 60 litres of beer per week. This one is a Hazy New England IPA in the boil stage in the brewer.

Pulling from 1 of 7 traps in the brewery can get you pints of Golden Ale, Cream Ale, Amber, Fruited session, NEIPA, Alt, and white stout. I like to start off while brewing with the Irish Stout on nitro. We strive for Guinness as the model and it certainly cascades the same.

Once it settles out, time to see if we can split the G with the first sip and get back to brewing.

Beers with the Team

Last weekend was a big one with our annual hockey tournament and stage show with the band. Plenty of miles to drive to jam with the guys and polish the songs we will be playing this weekend. I will have a report on that adventure for you this week.

Luckily no gratuitous nudity in the dressing room which just happens to be one of the best beers you can have. After a tough game, win or lose, cracking a pint in the room while getting out of your equipment and talking about the game is the best.

Another good use for ice, besides chilling the beer, is to reduce the swelling on some of those sore spots like the hand that blocked the slap shot. A little beer will put out that fire.

Saludos, @zekepickleman! Qué buen reporte para la semana 458. Me llamó mucho la atención esa fábrica de garage de 60 litros; como emprendedor de comida que soy, respeto mucho a quienes producen su propio producto con esa pasión. Esa NEIPA se ve excelente

Greetings, @zekepickleman! What a great report for week 458. That 60-liter garage brewery really caught my eye; as a food entrepreneur myself, I have a lot of respect for those who produce their own product with that kind of passion. That NEIPA looks excellent

Ah thanks! It is a bit of a labour of love but I really enjoy the sport of making it better each time and having fresh beer on tap!

lately I have been trying to explore craft beers and drink them at a reasonable pace instead of pounding 8 rather tasteless lagers when I go out now. So far i've kind of found out that I don't really care for IPA

IPA really is an aquired taste and a slippery slope once you get hooked. There are so many styles and variations to all of the hops and additives so maybe you haven’t found your style yet. West coast for bitter and east coast for sweet and hazy is a good place to start.

i'll look for hazy then. When I go out and have a meal I sometimes prefer to get a craft beer if I am going to drink at all. If I get a cheap lager that becomes the meal to me and I just drink a lot of them because all lagers are essentially the same and "college me" takes over in my mind and my objective becomes to frat-boy my way through them like it is a time-based challenge. I don't do this with craft beers because it is wasteful.

I sometimes do that with craft beer ;)

Because we brew all sorts of beers, I have redeveloped appreciation for other styles. No matter what the style, it is a like a wildcard whether it is good or not, fresh or properly carbonated. When you get a good one, it is so worth it.

last night something kind of funny happened. I don't speak Vietnamese, and I couldn't really tell what was on offer by the wording on the menu. So I went up to the bar and was pointing at the taps and asking question about the 5 beers they had on offer. I was just asking questions but the girl thought I was ordering. A couple minutes later a glass of each of the beers arrived at our table.

I guess we accidentally got a "flight" .... It's Vietnam, so it was only about $6 total and the laughs, well, who can put a price on that?

Haha! That is a happy little mistake right there!

Damn straight! Dark toasted malts make for a rich, almost coffee texture. Then smooth because of the nitro gas and light in alcohol despite the bolder flavour.
