PhotoFeed Contest - Wildlife Photography Round 132 ~ Orangutans at the Jantho Nature Reserve Reintroduction Center

Hello Hivers....

This post is my entry for the Cityscape Photography Contest hosted by @photofeed. If you'd like to participate, please read the rules here

Amidst the lush banana leaves and tangled climbing ropes, a reddish-orange orangutan hangs serenely in the scene I'm sharing. The scene isn't just a beautiful moment, but a symbol of the long-standing work of wildlife rescue in Aceh. The location is the Orangutan Reintroduction Center in the Jantho Nature Reserve, Aceh Besar, a forested area that serves as a "gateway" for Sumatran orangutans returning to their natural habitat.

The Jantho Nature Reserve is located in a relatively intact forested landscape and is connected to the broader ecosystem. This is where rescued orangutans, typically victims of illegal captivity, conflict with humans, or confiscation, undergo a recovery process, relearning to forage, build nests, and survive independently of humans. The goal is clearly to return them to independent, wild individuals.

Important Note: I wrote in Indonesian, then translated it using Google Translate. Regards @yayan
