PhotoFeed Contest - Street Photography Round 146 ~ Rainy Season Floods in Lhokseumawe City

Hello Hivers....

This post is my entry for the Street Photography Contest hosted by @photofeed. If you'd like to participate, please read here

The rainy season has once again brought challenges for the residents of Lhokseumawe City. Heavy rainfall over the past few days has caused several areas to become flooded, as seen in the photo I've shared. The water, reaching ankle-deep to knee-deep, disrupts public activities, especially during rush hour when people are trying to get to and from work or school. Inadequate drainage conditions and increased rainfall intensity have combined to trigger localized flooding on several city streets.

Despite these conditions, residents continued to carry out their daily activities. Two women riding a motorcycle, complete with raincoats, attempted to wade through the floodwaters, smiling, reflecting the resilience of the Lhokseumawe community in the face of less-than-ideal circumstances. Meanwhile, several pedestrians chose to cautiously navigate through the floodwaters. This scene clearly illustrates how the city's residents are accustomed to the almost routine flooding that occurs every rainy season.

This situation serves as a reminder of the importance of improved drainage and anticipatory measures by the local government to minimize the impact of future flooding. Furthermore, the public is urged to remain cautious when navigating flooded roads, whether by vehicle or on foot, for the safety of all. The rainy season should bring relief, not obstacles, so infrastructure improvements and preparedness are key to making Lhokseumawe more resilient to extreme rainfall.
