Welcome to another post in this community! Today, I want to share with you a mural that I see every day on my way to the gym!
It's painted on a small building at the secondary school I attended about 30 years ago, which at the time served as a changing room for PE classes.
One of these days, with the gate open for an activity taking place in the school's new pavilion, I took the opportunity to go in and take a detailed look at the mural.
First, let me tell you a little about the school itself. When I went there, and I was one of the first classes to complete secondary school there, it was still called Queluz Secondary School No. 2. Its activities began in 1988/89, and it was renamed “Stuart de Carvalhais” in 1993. Since then it has been called “Escola Secundária Stuart de Carvalhais”.
“And who was Stuart de Carvalhais?” You ask very well. He was a Portuguese artist who made a career as a painter, illustrator, caricaturist, as well as a photographer, stage director and decorator, who was born in 1888.
He attended the Royal Institute of Lisbon as a young man, where he gained skills as a tile painter. He participated in various publications and illustrations of a satirical nature, especially in the pre-democracy era, where he played a leading role as an active and scathing critic of the political and social system of the time.
This mural, which I'm sharing with you today, was designed, projected and painted by the artist “SalDoce”, which literally means “sweet salt”. A very original name, don't you think?😅

This mural uses the word Stuart and sets up a real spectacle of nature around it. The element that most caught my eye was the European cork tree on one of the sides. Several other elements make up this fabulous mural, such as a dragonfly, a bee (I confess I loved the detail of the little bee perched on a delicate flower), a macaw, a fox, a snail and a leafy flora that doesn't let the fauna shine on its own. A fantastic composition.
The artist, who I've only found a few references to on some social networks, also uses the pseudonym temperodiabético (as in diabetic spice).
I particularly like this mural, because even though I pass by it every day, I always end up admiring its balance of colors, as well as the delicate composition between the animals and the plants and vegetation.

Está pintado num pequeno edifício que fica na Escola Secundária que eu frequentei há cerca de 30 anos, onde na altura servia como balneário para as aulas de Educação Física.
Um dia destes, e tendo o portão aberto para uma actividade que estava a decorrer no novo pavilhão da Escola, aproveitei para entrar e registar à vontade e com detalhe o mural.
Primeiro deixem-me falar um pouco acerca da Escola em si. Quando eu lá andei, e fui das primeiras turmas a completar o Ensino Secundário naquele estabelecimento, ainda se denominava Escola Secundária Queluz nº2. As suas actividades iniciaram-se em 1988/89, a qual foi rebatizada para "Stuart de Carvalhais" já em 1993. Sendo desde então denominada de "Escola Secundária Stuart de Carvalhais".
"E quem foi Stuart de Carvalhais?" Perguntam muito bem, vocês. Foi um artista português que fez carreira como pintor, ilustrador, caricaturista, bem como fotografo, encenador e decorador, que nasceu no ano de 1888.
Frequentou em jovem o Real Instituto de Lisboa, onde ganhou habilidades enquanto pintor de azulejos. Participou em várias publicações e ilustrações com natureza sátira, sobretudo na epóca pré democracia, onde tem um papel preponderante como um activo e mordaz critico do sistema politico e social de então.
Este mural que hoje eu aqui partilho com vocês, foi pensado , projectado e pintado pelo artista "SalDoce", que literalmente quer dizer sal doce. Um nome bem original, não acham?😅

Este mural utiliza a palavra Stuart e monta um verdadeiro espetáculo da natureza em seu redor. O elemento que mais me chamou a atenção foi mesmo o rolieiro europeu que se encontra numa das laterais. Vários outros elementos constituem este fabuloso mural, como uma libélula, uma abelha (confesso que adorei o pormenor da abelhinha pousada numa delicada flor), uma arara, uma raposa, um caracol e uma frondosa flora que não deixa a fauna brilhar só por si. Uma fantástica composição.
O artista que apenas encontrei algumas referências em algumas redes sociais, usa também o pseudônimo de temperodiabético (como quem diz tempero diabético).
Gosto particularmente deste mural, pois mesmo que que eu passe todos os dias ao seu lado, acabo sempre por admirar o seu equilíbrio de cores, bem como a composição delicada entre os animais e as plantas e vegetação.
