Shadows on a Balcony in Varadero. [EN/ES]

Hello, friends of the #ShadowHunters community.

These days I continue staying at the hotel, practically lodged here so I can work for several days in a row. After that, another group replaces us and we go back home for a while. That is how we are managing this situation of closed tourism and fuel shortages. It is a strange routine, but a necessary one to keep the place functioning while we wait for better times.

Yesterday was Sunday and we only worked until noon. When I returned to the room, I went out to the balcony to sit for a while and feel the sea breeze. The view is wonderful. Do not forget that this is Varadero beach, just a few meters from the water. If it were not for the current situation and what seems to be coming, one could say that it is truly a privilege to be here.

While I was there, looking at the sea and letting the wind do its work, I noticed something simple but interesting: the shadow of the balcony railing reflected on the floor. The railing, already a bit eroded and marked by the marine environment — that constant mixture of salt and humidity — projected an irregular shadow that also seemed to tell its own story. Sometimes even the marks left by time create shapes that the sunlight transforms into images worth stopping to observe.

Sombras en el balcón de Varadero

Hola, amigos de la comunidad #ShadowHunters.

Por estos días continúo en el hotel, prácticamente albergado para poder trabajar durante algunos días seguidos. Luego llega un relevo y regresamos a casa por un tiempo, y así es como estamos manejando esta situación de turismo detenido y falta de combustible. Es una rutina extraña, pero necesaria para mantener el lugar funcionando mientras esperamos tiempos mejores.

Ayer fue domingo y solo trabajamos hasta las doce del mediodía. Al regresar a la habitación salí al balcón para sentarme un rato a sentir la brisa del mar. La vista es maravillosa: no olviden que estamos en la playa de Varadero, a escasos metros del agua. Si no fuera por la situación actual y por lo que parece venir, uno podría decir que es un verdadero privilegio estar aquí.

Mientras estaba allí, mirando el mar y dejando que el viento hiciera lo suyo, noté algo sencillo pero interesante: la sombra de la baranda del balcón reflejada sobre el suelo. La baranda, ya un poco erosionada y marcada por el ambiente marino —esa mezcla constante de salitre y humedad— proyectaba una sombra irregular que contaba también su propia historia. A veces incluso el desgaste del tiempo deja formas que la luz transforma en imágenes dignas de detenerse a observar.
