One Change I Would Make. LoH#280.
If I had the power to create just one law in my country right now, omo it would definitely be something that tackles unemployment, because let us be honest, this unemployment issue is getting too much, likeee.... everywhere you turn, you see young people that are willing to work, people that even went to school, got their certificates, did everything they were supposed to do… but still no job, see ehn, It is not even like they are lazy, the jobs are just not there, or the ones available are not even enough, So the kind of law I would create is this, a law that makes it compulsory for the government and even big private companies to create and provide a certain number of jobs every year, especially for young people, not just any kind of jobs o, but meaningful jobs that can actually help someone survive and grow, because what is the point of having so many graduates every year if there are no opportunities waiting for them?
I feel like one of the biggest problems we have is that there is no proper structure to absorb people into the workforce, People graduate and then they are just at home, applying and applying, sending CVs everywhere, and nothing is coming out of it, after a while, it even starts affecting their confidence.
Omo, it’s frustrating, that is why this law would not just be about creating jobs, but also about accountability, If funds are allocated for job creation, there should be clear records showing where the money went and how many jobs were actually created, no more of all those promises without results.

Another thing I would include in that law is skill development, not everybody will work in an office, and that’s okay, there should be proper support for people to learn skills, start small businesses, and grow, If people are empowered properly, they won’t even need to depend fully on white collar jobs, because the truth is, not everyone is meant to sit in an office from morning till night, some people just need the right support to build something of their own, if this kind of law is actually followed, I believe it will change a lot of things, First, people will have something doing, When people are busy and earning, it reduces frustration and even crime, A lot of things we see happening today are connected to people not having anything meaningful to do.
Secondly, it will improve the economy. When people are working and earning, they will spend more, invest more, and that money will circulate within the country, It’s a win-win situation, And most importantly, it will give people hope, because right now, one thing that is missing for many young people is hope, yu see people trying, but after many rejections, they just get tired. Some even start doubting themselves, thinking they are not good enough, but imagine a system where opportunities are actually available, where your effort can actually lead to something real, Omo, the difference will be clear,
So yes, if I had the power to create just one law, it would be a law that seriously addresses unemployment, not just by talking, but by actually creating opportunities and holding people accountable, because at the end of the day, everybody just wants a fair chance to survive and do better in life.

In my country there are also many graduates who are unemployed; this shouldn't happen because it's a waste of human talent.

This is a great post - so much to unpack in it ! As you spotted, reducing unemployment helps solve so many other problems.
I don't think there is a single simple answer, the solution is probably found by a whole host of linked measures. But in an African context, I wonder if a big part of it is localisation; encouraging the formation of new businesses employing local people who can make and sell things that are currently bought in from abroad.
There was a very interesting video I watched recently, which might be a bit of a puff piece, but from the checking I did seems to be correct. It shows what doing things locally can do, although it requires a lot of lateral thinking and a willingness to break the established order -

Nigerian economy and the entire African economy really needs to be worked on. It’s gotten so bad citizens can’t even afford their basic needs.
