A Business I Once Believed In. LOH #272.
I once wished to run a business, and yes, it was something I really thought about deeply at a point in my life, I once wished to start a baking business, after all that's why I went ahead to go to a catering school for a year, At that time, I was very sure of what I wanted, I had the hopes of going into cooking, baking, and even event planning, It felt like something natural to me, something I could actually do and grow with over time.

See When I started the catering school, everything felt very exciting for me, Learning how to bake cakes, to prepare meals, understand measurements, timing, and also presentation, all these made me feel like I was on the right path, then I could already picture myself running my own small baking business, taking orders, making cakes for birthdays, weddings, and events, It was a nice dream, and at that point, I truly believed I could really make it work out.
But the more I got into the business, the more I realised that passion alone wasn't enough, I realised that I needed money to actually run the business properly, Baking is not just about knowing how to bake, it’s also about having the right tools and equipment, Mixers, ovens, baking pans, decorating tools, all these things cost money, and without them, work becomes slower and more stressful.

What I did then was, after my training, I went to work with a food company, I also worked at an event center, just so I could get the hang of these things and understand how the business really works from the inside, I wanted experience, not just skills, Working in those places taught me a lot about food service, customer expectations, pressure, and time management.
As time went on, I started getting orders for cakes, People liked my work, and that gave me hope, But the problem was that I didn’t have some equipment that would have made my work faster and easier, I had to do many things manually, and it became exhausting, Sometimes, I would turn down orders simply because I knew I couldn’t deliver on time or at the quality I wanted.
Eventually, I just finally gave up the thought, not because I didn’t love baking anymore, but because the reality of it was overwhelming without enough resources, It was really a tough decision, but at that time, it felt like the only option.
But seriously, if it were that I had the money to get those equipment I needed to make my work smoother and better, definitely I would have continued, Maybe by now, I would have gone a long way in the baking industry, i believe that strongly.
I still hope to go into it someday when I have the ability to, Baking is still something close to my heart, But I also know that I would have to run a master class on baking again because the world advances every day, and there are always new techniques and ideas to learn, When the time is right, I believe I’ll get back to it, better prepared and more confident.

I like your realistic approach ! You learned enough and gained enough experience to realise it was something you weren't in a position to do immediately. Many businesses fail, so getting the foundations right is the best way to avoid that.
But with what you've learned, you can make a plan. Decide if it really is something you want to do. If it is, work out what skills you need before you start and which ones you can gain later (you've already done marketing, which is a big help !). Then you can work out what facilities and equipment you need, and whether it's affordable enough that you could save for them in a reasonable time. Or if not, how you would raise the finance (or take a halfway step, get the business running enough to raise the funds but not running at 100% - that's what I did with my business, and it was a massive slog !) The plan needs to cover everything you can think of - operational, logistics, marketing, equipment, and most of all the financial side to ensure it will be profitable enough relative to the time you'll have to put in. Go for it ! 😀
First, thanks sir for your comment.
So in a country like ours , you need more than just setting up a business, you need connections because there are already many people doing the kind of business you want to do..
As for me it is something I plan on doing, but I want to get a certificate to back it up , so that by the time I start, I can bodly come out to say , I have done this and that..it's not going to be easy , that I do.
Yes, about saving, I do have to get a job for this , which is why I have been trying to think of the best way to go about schooling and working so I can have something to save to acquire things I need and still be able to survive.
Most of the time our hearts is out to do something but the resources is always a great limitation. Bur in all keep pushing you dreams will come to reality someday
sure i will keep on pushing. thaanks for stopping by
You are welcome
Wow sorry for your experience, but I think you didn't really plan well, sorry don't get me wrong, to me if you really wanted to own that business as you said, I think you should have plan better.
What I mean by plan better is, when you got that job, the first thing that should be your priority is getting the tools, the important ones. Little by little you could've achieved your dreams. But hope it not too late sha. Thanks for sharing.
Lol. .
With the responsibility and the little pay? Well you can't understand it. But thanks for your comment.
You're welcome.
Many things become a hindrance to one's dream and it's so sad to hear that your own love for bakery was suspended but I hop that you pick it up one day and make it big.
I will one day...
The lack of resources can be a challenge for most, but I'm glad you are not giving up on your dream business. All the best !LADY

Funding is one of the major challenges of small businesses. You have such a great passion for the baking business. I hope that someday you can pick it up again, and with every support you need. Until then, keep the dream alive.

When do you think the time is right? Lol
Start now, my dear 😄
Honestly, we have passion for some businesses but starting up with capital can be a delay but yes, when we put our minds to it, we can start small and gradually, we will get those things we’d wanted to keep the business going. Everyone starts small.
Good, that is a pragmatic approach to having a hard look into actually creating a business. It's easy to dream about it but there is a long road first. It takes more than just passion and you'd find that you have to learn to wear many different professional 'hats' before taking your first customer's order.
I knew a friend that opened a catering business but I haven't seen her for a long time.
Thanks for sharing you business dream @treasuree

Baking is one of the things I love watching people do because it gives me joy when I see people bake or design cakes the creativity I love so much
it's a pity you couldn't chase that dream all the way into reality. The orders were clearly a sign your passion meant your baking was excellent. That means when you can get the tools and equipment you need you'll succeeded.
Sometimes we have great ideas that fall apart, but baking is a great business. I hope you can get back to it.
Bendiciones 🙏🏼 🙏🏼 🙏🏼
