LOH #286: Bullying must be fought, because we are meaningful.

Discussing the school environment is never-ending. Especially bullying. You know, this has been going on for a very long time, and it's like a tangled thread that's incredibly difficult to unravel, or like a never-ending chain. From mild bullying to serious ones that result in fatalities, it keeps happening year after year, with a significant increase in cases. But how come? Why doesn't it stop and instead seems to become a culture?

When I was in my final year of elementary school, it was my hardest year because I had to endure verbal bullying from my entire class. It was a miserable year, but I got through it. I don't know why they did that to me and ostracized me. I was high-achieving, and I was never naughty. I was just deaf, and that made them abuse me. At that time, I didn't cry or whine. I just went to school every day, attended lessons, practiced for extra practice for the final exams, and that was it. I finished my final year with flying colors, got good grades, and got into the top junior high school in my district.

In junior high, I experienced similar verbal bullying, but in a smaller group. I kept asking myself: Why? Why did they have to be so harsh when this was my body? What did I do? Nothing. How did I handle it? Nothing. I just continued with my normal activities, wondering.

WHAT IF MY CHILD IS A BULLYING VICTIM?

I don't want him to be like me. I will ask who dared to do it and how many people? If the number is large, I will step forward and urge the relevant school personnel, including educators, to take this seriously. I will tell my child to stand up to the bully and not remain silent because he was born a free human being and citizen. If, after the discussion, the situation becomes increasingly uncontrollable, making my child uncomfortable and hindering his educational development, I will move him elsewhere. I will not allow my child, whom I gave birth to with all my love and all my heart, a free and independent human being, to endure trauma that will not heal for the rest of his life.

I will tell him that he has the right to control his own body, so if anyone bullies him, whether physically or verbally, it is absolutely unacceptable. It is not your fault, and it must be stopped. The wounds of bullying can linger in the victim's mind for life. Even if the victim finds a way to make peace with their wounds, the memories will still haunt them periodically. I hope bullying in any form is not allowed to continue. Thank you for reading my opinion; I hope you were impressed. See you in the next contest.

It is important for us parents to demonstrate before our own children that we take bullying serious. Our courage must be demonstrated as the bully is confronted with consequences when the truth comes out. We should not take for granted the emotional and mental health of our children yet an opportunity for them to grow, mature in life and learn to deescalate a situation.
