TRUST

Every job, whether real or imagined, brings us closer to understanding human behavior. From teamwork to tension, kindness to competitionWhat has your job or dream job taught you about people?

I titled my story Trust because of my experience in the past.So many years ago, after my university and my National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). I applied for a teaching job in a private school in one of the states. Before I applied for the job, I was just a church worker, hoping to get employed soon. So I had this friend from the same church, we sing together in the church choir. She was my best friend; we were very close. Everyone in the church knows us together.

I mean, you can't see her without me, and I could say the same with me. We eat together. She sleeps at my place sometimes. I give her some of my clothes too. She was a teacher in one of the private schools then, so one fateful day I was at home and she called me to ask if I was interested in teaching in the same school with her. Because there was a vacancy in the school. I was so excited 😆, and I answered yes. She told me to get my application letter ready for submission the next day. Fortunately for me, I got the job.

Thank God. I was loved by my colleague; even the proprietress loved me—may her soul rest in peace 🕊️. That is one grace that God gave me, I think. Wherever I go, people love me naturally. My friend's name is BLESSINGS. So I started working in the same school with Blessing. I didn't know how the school system was, so I needed some help from the old staff, and because they liked me naturally, wherever I went to get help, I was never disappointed. Work was going well with me. Oh, I forgot to tell you that we don't stay in the same area with Blessing, but she could always come to wait for me so we can go to work together.

Everyone knows us as best friends. I also enjoyed my work because my colleague made it easier for me. Until one incident happened that changed everything.Reflect on the lessons, surprises, and challenges that shaped your view on human nature in a working setting. Wow, the lesson I learned was never to tell anyone how much you earned at work, no matter how close you are with the person. Especially your colleagues. I was seriously surprised to see that the person I called sister would be jealous of my progress. Yes, I am talking about Blessing. My challenge was trusting too much, thinking everyone has a good heart and intentions towards one another like me.

Everything changed from the moment I found out that not everyone who smiles with me actually loves me, so this is what happened: one fateful afternoon after work, Blessing and I were going home from work, and she asked me how much my salary was, and when I told her, everything changed from that day. Guess what? Blessing stopped talking to me for no reason. at that moment. And that shapes my mind towards human nature: never trust anyone, or don't trust too much. Blessing hates me to date because of that single thing. I TRUSTED TOO MUCH. Thank God I relocated to another state.Thank you for reading my story.

I am so sorry you went through that experience. The positive thing is that you learned your lesson and are now better prepared to prevent it from happening again in the future. We can't stop trusting other people, we depend on each other to live. That doesn't stop you from protecting yourself and being more cautious. I liked to read you, thanks for sharing this!

Always keep your secret to yourself as no one is to be trusted and once a secret is told to another person, it's no more a secret. Thanks for sharing.
