Some meals are more than just food; they're memories, emotions, and home on a plate. What is your comfort meal?
Who made it, and why does it matter to you?

Good day, everyone. Thank you for dropping by. My comfort and favorite meal is bean porridge, weird, right? I know. 😆. Who made it, Mum.

I think in the southern part of Nigeria, beans porridge is one of their common foods, if I am not mistaken. And again, I have seen people who don't like bean porridge; I mean, they don't eat beans at all. And my husband is one of the people that don't eat bean porridge; it upsets his stomach.

Bean porridge is not that friendly if you are not used to it. It could make you have a runny stomach if not properly cooked. But I love it. 😘. In fact, there isn't a week that passes by without me cooking beans. Let me tell you the story behind my love for bean porridge.

So while growing up as kids, we never liked eating beans. Anytime Mum cooked beans porridge, nobody would eat it. At the end of the day, she could add sugar to the beans porridge to make it tasty for us, and we loved it with that sugar. As children, you know what that means, right? Children normally like sweet things, so with the sugar in the beans porridge, everyone could eat immediately.

When Mum died, we stopped eating it at some point, but as we grew older, we came to realize that beans are one of the best proteinius rich foods, and we made it a culture to start eating it again.

I personally make it a culture to eat beans porridge every Saturday. My siblings never liked it still, but at the saying, change is a constant thing in life. And as time goes on, they begin to like it too. I win, right? I know. 🤗. And when I got married, they started missing my cooking bean porridge every Saturday. My brother called me one certain time to tell me that they really missed me because of my Saturday food, which is bean porridge.

So once a year we gather together, my siblings and I, to have a family Thanksgiving dinner 🍽️, and all we eat there is beans, porridge, and fruits. Then we could talk about the memories that come with it. the story behind it and how much we miss Mum. Anytime I and my siblings are meeting, we cook beans porridge in memory of our beloved mum; may her soul continue to rest in peace. 🕊️.

It reminds us of her. That kind of family gathering where you talk about the past and how important it was, but we never knew until now. So bean porridge is my comfort and favorite meal. Thank you for reading my story.

Beans porridge? I’ve never heard of that before. It sure must taste delicious with how you are describing it. So is it just sugar? Or you add milk.

It's just like that, there are some places where we go with our friends and family and the time spent there is very memorable for us and will always be remembered.
