Korean recipes has always captivated me with its beauty ,the Korean food do always presents multiple flavors through its colorful plating that supports mutual dining experiences that I find deeply enticing. Throughout my culinary exploration I have tried numerous Korean dishes starting with Jjajangmyeon which serves pork black bean sauce noodles and Bulgogi hot plates that keep me craving for more.

Despite my extensive culinary exploration Dakdoritang remains one of the dishes that I have never ordered.

My friend recently stated to me,

You should definitely order Dakdoritang whenever you visit a Korean restaurant.

These words have been in my mind and I think it is time to take action on that suggestion.

Dakdoritang is a spicy braised chicken stew that contains potatoes carrots onions and is coated with delicious gochujang sauce. This dish is regarded as the ultimate Korean comfort food which provides comfort to everyone who consumes it by allowing them to finish all the rich sauce with a bowl of rice. People say that the broth contains the characteristic Korean balance of spicy and sweet and savory flavors which connect each ingredient perfectly.

I am not always comfortable with trying extremely spicy foods. The culinary experience of Dakdoritang seems to be worth trying beyond my usual eating habits. The picture of chicken pieces cooking with vegetables in a strong spicy sauce appears too appealing to resist.

I enjoy recommendations because they come from people who live in the area since they understand what truly makes a great dish. This experience feels like discovering the genuine Korean culinary experience which extends beyond well-known popular dishes.

The next time I eat at a Korean restaurant Dakdoritang will definitely be on the menu. Dakdoritang has become my number one restaurant selection for the moment.

Main ingredients :

Chicken (usually bone-in pieces like drumsticks or thighs)

Potatoes | Carrots | Onions | Green onions | Garlic

Sauce / Seasoning:

Gochujang (Korean red chili paste) | Gochugaru (Korean red chili flakes, optional for extra heat) | Soy sauce | Sesame oil | Sugar (or honey) | Rice wine (optional, like Mirin or Cheongju) | Ginger (optional) | Black pepper.

Optional additions:

Zucchini or other vegetables | Tteok (Korean rice cakes) for extra chewiness | Water or stock to make the stew base.

The beauty of Dakdoritang is that everything simmers together until the chicken is tender and the potatoes soak up that spicy-sweet-savory sauce. It’s a true comfort food!
