This is my first time participating in the community. I chose to begin with this photograph of a small spider.

I was very curious about the shape of this spider’s body. After some research, I discovered it’s called the spiny orb-weaver (Gasteracantha cancriformis). It’s also known by other names such as soldier spider or spiny weaving spider. It’s a very common species in American countries, where it weaves its web among branches and low vegetation. In females, the spines are much more visible and they have black spots. The photo was taken using my mobile phone.
