Island in Shadows

Hello friends and community, I hope you're having a wonderful weekend. For a moment, I thought I wouldn’t have the chance to participate in this round, but I’m very happy to always find the space to share a photo from my gallery and write about it.

Hola amigos y comunidad, espero que estén teniendo un muy lindo fin de semana. Por un momento pensé que no tendría oportunidad de participar en esta ronda, pero estoy muy contento de siempre encontrar el espacio para compartir una foto de mi galería y escribir sobre ella.

This photo touches on something personal: a map of Cuba, my homeland. I am a geography professor, and on the map rests a seashell brought from one of its beaches. Just like in the image, we have spent years in the shadows—shadows of power outages, shadows in our streets and homes, and worst of all, shadows in our dreams. The deepest realities hide in the everyday: in an old map and a forgotten seashell, in the coming and going of electricity, painting shadows under the light of whatever invention we can come up with.
