Anime Review ~ Tokyo Revengers: Saving the Girl, Breaking the Timeline

Today I will be talking about one of the most popular anime named Tokyo Revengers. I want to be honest first, we all have regrets, right? It would be great if we could go past and get any chance to do things differently. That’s exactly what Tokyo Revengers's story is about. At first, I thought it was just another normal time travel anime. But once I got into it, I realized this anime had way more things than I expected.

It’s not just about fixing the past. It’s about how hard it is to change yourself, others and the future. Takemichi isn’t just another normal protagonist like other anime. His characteristics are very interesting he's awkward, and honestly he’s weak. But that’s what makes him a real person and feels real in the anime. You know, some people who never give up. He’s like that. He tries again and again, to do the right thing. That’s something interesting about him and kept me watching.

Story Summary and My Review

The story starts with Takemichi Hanagaki,. He’s litrelly stuck in an endless job....even he has no self-worth, and basically he lives like a ghost. Then the shocking news appears he finds out that his ex-girlfriend from middle school, Hinata, and her younger brother Naoto were murdered. They were murdered by the Tokyo Manji Gang. This is one of the most dangerous gangs around the city. Then something happened that I wasn't prepared for, out of nowhere, he’s pushed onto a train track and instead of dying.....he wakes up 12 years in the past. From this moment the story takes a one eighty degree turn.

It feels like a dream to Takemichi... but after saving Naoto and returning to the present....everything changes. Naoto is now alive, and he explains that Takemichi can time travel whenever they shake hands. So now, the main goal is going back to the past and rewriting the future to stop Hinata’s death. Another goal is to give punishments to the Tokyo Manji Gang.

Now, here’s the new problem...Takemichi is not smart, strong, or fearless. He makes mistake a lot. And one thing I want to tell you that he cries more than most anime characters combined. But forget about everything. Most important thing is he has a heart. And he never stops fighting, not physically....moreover emotionally. His vision is very clear, to save the people he loves, no matter how many times he has to break the timeline.

By the time, Takemichi discovered that...the Tokyo Manji Gang isn’t just a bunch of teenagers. It’s complex yet emotional. He went deeper into the group. He meets characters like Mikey and Draken. These two are the central figures holding everything together. If I tell you about their characteristics then, Mikey is calm and playful, but has a there's something dangerous too. When he loses control, he becomes violent in a way that’s very terrifying. Draken is more grounded.

Takemichi’s growth is slow but steady. He doesn’t suddenly become strong overnight. In fact, he still loses almost every physical fight. But he gains something more important which is determination. He begins to understand things. It’s not just about saving Hinata anymore. It’s about saving everyone.

Let's talk about some downsides which I felt, this anime isn't perfect. There were mistakes in pacing in a few episodes. Sometimes it feels like Takemichi is stuck in the same emotional loop. And one more thing, Hinata, the sweet and brave girl, doesn’t get much development throughout the show. And I wish she had more of her own story. The same goes for a few of the female characters.

Recommendation?

What really makes Tokyo Revengers special is how grounded it feels. Yes, there’s time travel. But the emotions, the friendships, the consequences....those are all like real feeling. It’s not about saving the world. It’s about saving a few people that matters. And that is something which I could connect more emotionally. If you love emotional storytelling, and characters who mess up but keep going at the end of the day, then Tokyo Revengers is your thing. As always, my warning is "just be ready to cry a lot"

Então, a notícia chocante aparece: ele descobre que sua ex-namorada do ensino fundamental, Hinata, e seu irmão mais novo Naoto foram assassinados. Eles foram assassinados pela Tokyo Manji Gang. Esta é uma das gangues mais perigosas da cidade. Na época, Takemichi descobriu que... a Tokyo Manji Gang não é apenas um grupo de adolescentes. É complexo, mas emocional. Ele se aprofundou no grupo. Ele conhece personagens como Mikey e Draken. Esses dois são as figuras centrais que mantêm tudo unido. Se eu te contar sobre as características deles, então, Mikey é calmo e brincalhão, mas há algo perigoso também. Quando ele perde o controle, ele se torna violento de uma maneira muito aterrorizante. Draken é mais centrado.

O que realmente torna Tokyo Revengers especial é o quão realista ele se sente. Sim, há viagem no tempo. Mas as emoções, as amizades, as consequências... tudo isso é como um sentimento real. Não se trata de salvar o mundo. Trata-se de salvar algumas pessoas que importam. E isso é algo com o qual eu poderia me conectar mais emocionalmente. Se você ama narrativas emocionais, e personagens que cometem erros mas continuam em frente no final do dia, então Tokyo Revengers é para você.
