Today I want to talk about the anime that made me fool in the best and worst way both. At first, I thought it was as usual a fantasy story with cute kids, some weird creatures, etc etc. It felt like a cozy adventure. But I was totally wrong. This anime goes deeper from a different perspective. This wonderful anime makes you think about its beautiful and hurtful both sides.

The Abyss! You can feel the weight of this anime from its name, right? The story is about a massive hole in the ground. It is full of ancient, strange things and darkness. The massive hole is not just a backdrop, it’s alive. It’s like a character which doesn't care about you. I think you are curious to know it better, right? Let's go then:

Story Summary and My Review

There’s a town called "Orth" built around the Abyss. People of the town live their life by diving into the hole and collecting valuable ancient things from the lost civilization. They’re called Delvers. The deeper they go, the harder it becomes to get out of the hole. It is not just because of the monsters but because of something way worse. I am talking about the Curse of the Abyss. Basically, the Abyss punishes you when you try to come back up. There are various types of punishments. Among them some are Nausea, bleeding, madness, yes it's really harsh. In every layer the punishments get more worse. It becomes more difficult if you go deeper.

The story is about a 12-year-old girl Riko. One day, she gets information about her mom who might be deeper in the Abyss. Meanwhile, she meets Reg. He looks like a boy, but he’s part machine. He has no memories, just instincts. Together they take a strong decision of going deeper inside of the abyss and find the truth. The journey or adventure begins:

At first, it feels like a cute adventure story. Believe me it is not. It really felt like a typical adventure anime for young kids. But it was beyond my mind about its brutality later. As I told you each layer of the Abyss they go the more difficult it becomes to come back. The more it becomes dangerous and messed up. Inside the abyss there are terrifying creatures. The landscapes are gorgeous but deadly. The show felt too real. Let me tell you about a scene where Riko gets poisoned and her body reacts badly. She was screaming and Reg was panicking, and I was panicking too. It was like I was watching a real kid suffer.

The show doesn't make us forget that they are kids, they’re not superheroes. Because, sometimes they cry, they bleed, they break badly. But they have a strong willpower to keep going, even when everything is opposite them. It makes them think of them as well as me that they can't go back now. The moment was too intense.

After all that we meet the new character Nanachi. If you’ve seen the show, you know, Nanachi is... everything. She was a creature with bunny ears, a sense of humor, and her backstory was devastating and full of sadness. Nanachi’s pain is quiet as well as it’s deep. She doesn’t just add to the story, she litrelly changes it. Her bond with Riko and Reg feels real. It was like watching them as like a family in the middle of the pain.

What about the visual? It was stunning. The Abyss looks alive. Every layer has its own brutality as well as light, color, vibe. It’s beautiful, but also terrifying. The characters were so sweet. Sometimes everything feels like a dream, it is a dream you don't want to wake up from.

What about the music?.... Kevin Penkin is a master. His tracks don’t just fit the environment but also they create the mood. Sometimes the music makes everything feel heavier ans sadder, sometimes it makes it more real. The soundtrack doesn’t just play in the background it lets you feel everything better.

Recommendation?

If you’re looking for something light and easy, I would say this isn’t for you. Also if you don't like brutality you should avoid this. But again, it's beautifully brutal. If you want a good story, not as usual, and makes you feel, then Made in Abyss is for you. It’s obviously painful as well as beautiful. If you are planning to watch Made in Abyss a friendly advice for you, Be Ready. The Abyss doesn’t let you come back.

Há uma cidade chamada "Orth" construída ao redor do Abismo. As pessoas da cidade vivem mergulhando no buraco e coletando coisas antigas valiosas da civilização perdida. Eles são chamados de Exploradores. Quanto mais fundo vão, mais difícil se torna sair do buraco. Não é apenas por causa dos monstros, mas por algo muito pior. Estou falando sobre a Maldição do Abismo. Basicamente, o Abismo te pune quando você tenta voltar para cima. Existem vários tipos de punições. Entre eles, alguns são náusea, sangramento, loucura, sim, é realmente severo. Em cada camada, as punições ficam piores. Fica mais difícil se você descer mais fundo.

A história é sobre uma garota de 12 anos chamada Riko. Um dia, ela recebe informações sobre sua mãe que pode estar mais profunda no Abismo. Enquanto isso, ela encontra Reg. Como eu te disse, quanto mais fundo eles vão nas camadas do Abismo, mais difícil se torna voltar. Quanto mais perigoso e confuso se torna. Dentro do abismo há criaturas aterrorizantes. As paisagens são deslumbrantes, mas mortais. O show parecia muito real. Deixe-me contar sobre uma cena em que Riko é envenenada e seu corpo reage mal. Ela estava gritando e Reg estava em pânico, e eu também estava em pânico. Era como se eu estivesse vendo uma criança de verdade sofrer.

O show não nos faz esquecer que eles são crianças, não são super-heróis. Porque, às vezes, eles choram, sangram, quebram-se feio. Mas eles têm uma forte força de vontade para continuar, mesmo quando tudo está contra eles. Isso os faz pensar, assim como a mim, que não podem voltar agora. O momento foi intenso demais.

Depois de tudo isso, conhecemos a nova personagem Nanachi. Se você assistiu ao show, você sabe, Nanachi é... tudo. Ela era uma criatura com orelhas de coelho, um senso de humor, e sua história de fundo era devastadora e cheia de tristeza. A dor de Nanachi é silenciosa, assim como é profunda. Ela não apenas adiciona à história, ela a muda literalmente. Seu vínculo com Riko e Reg parece real. Era como assistir a eles como uma família no meio da dor.

E quanto ao visual? Foi deslumbrante. O Abismo parece vivo. Cada camada tem sua própria brutalidade, assim como luz, cor e vibração. É bonito, mas também aterrorizante. Os personagens eram tão doces. Às vezes tudo parece um sonho, é um sonho do qual você não quer acordar.

E a música? .... Kevin Penkin é um mestre. Suas faixas não apenas se encaixam no ambiente, mas também criam a atmosfera. Às vezes, a música faz tudo parecer mais pesado e triste, às vezes, faz tudo parecer mais real. A trilha sonora não toca apenas ao fundo, ela te faz sentir tudo melhor.

Recommendation?

Se você está procurando algo leve e fácil, eu diria que isso não é para você. Além disso, se você não gosta de brutalidade, deve evitar isso. Mas, novamente, é brutalmente belo. Se você quer uma boa história, não como as de costume, e que te faça sentir, então Made in Abyss é para você. É obviamente doloroso, assim como belo.
