Proper Disposal Can Save Our Planet

Waste disposal is a serious environmental issue in many community today. In my area, waste is often disposed of indiscriminately. Some days, I will come out of my gate only to find the whole street littered with nylon of sachets water and plastics scattered everywhere, the sight can be very annoying and discouraging. I have to sometimes pick them up and put them into a bag that I have saved specifically for collecting those sachets water nylons and plastics.

I live in an area where flood disturbs a lot. Whenever it rains heavily, the water fills the road and makes movement very difficult. One major reason for this is that the drainage systems are often blocked by nylons and plastics thrown carelessly on the streets. When the gutters are clogged, the rainwater has nowhere to pass, so it overflows into the roads and sometimes into people's homes, damaging people's properties and also creates dirty and unhealthy environment.

I remember attending a parents Teachers Forum in my children's school, the principal spoke strongly about environmental cleanliness. He encouraged parents to get a big bag and use it to store plastics and nylons instead of throwing them away carelessly. I took the advice and set aside bag that I used to store plastics and nylons. I wished that every household would keep a waste bag for plastic and nylons in other to dispose it properly, then the streets would look very different, and flooding could be greatly reduced.

Improper waste disposal may look like a small problem, but it's effect can be life threatening. Blocked drainage leads to flooding, and stagnant water becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other harmful insects. Plastics and nylons that are washed into gutters and swamps pollutes the water and course harm to humans health, expecially since it can not decompose easily.

Proper waste disposal, on the other hand, helps protect our planet. When we collect and separate plastics, nylons, and other recyclable materials, they can be reused or recycled into new product. By so doing, we are helping in reducing the amount of waste in the land and preventing drainage systems from being blocked, and also improving public health and making our community more beautiful and safe.

It is the duty of all of us to keep our environment clean, and it starts with a simple act of picking up litters, keeping a waste bag at home, inculcating into our children the importance of cleanliness and encouraging our neighbours by setting a good example.
