In the PhotoFeed Contest - Portrait Photography Round 135 organized by @photofeed, I tried to share a portrait photo of the life of farmers cutting rice in the midst of rural life. The photo I shared shows one of the daily portraits of farmers in the countryside during the rice harvest season. It shows farmers in simple clothes wearing dark jackets and head coverings to protect themselves from the hot sun as they diligently cut the yellowing rice. Strong and agile hands tightly hold the clumps of rice, signifying hard work filled with patience and perseverance.

Behind the farmer is a simple house with cement and wood walls and a zinc roof, typical of rural buildings. The rural atmosphere is palpable with green trees, ornamental plants, and even a satellite dish standing next to the house. All of this adds to the natural and simple feel of farming life.

The yellowing rice grains symbolize hope. Each grain gathered represents the result of months of hard work tending the rice paddies, from planting the seeds and protecting the plants from pests to ensuring their thriving. The process of harvesting rice is not merely a routine but a meaningful tradition, as this is where the main food source for the Indonesian nation is derived.

This photo illustrates the crucial role of farmers in maintaining food security. They work with dedication despite often facing challenges, including weather conditions, fluctuating grain prices, and limited modern equipment. However, their passion and sincerity in their work make this profession truly noble.

This portrait is not simply a documentation of harvesting activities, but also a reflection of village life, steeped in the values ​​of simplicity, hard work, and togetherness. It is from the hands of these farmers that rice, the staple food of the Indonesian people, is born, connecting families across the country.
