PhotoFeed Contest - Landscape Photography Round 133 ~ Tertiary Channel of Rajui Padang Tiji Reservoir
Hello....
In the PhotoFeed Landscape Photography Contest Round 133 hosted by @photofeed, I tried to share a photo of the tertiary canal of the Rajui reservoir. The Rajui Reservoir, located in Padang Tiji District, Pidie Regency, Aceh, is one of the important infrastructures built to support the irrigation needs of the surrounding community. This reservoir not only functions as a water reservoir but also as the main source for irrigating vast agricultural land in the Pidie region. One vital part of this irrigation system is the tertiary canal, as seen in the one I share.
The tertiary canal serves to channel water from the secondary canal to the community's rice fields. Water, lowered through the stepped system, as shown in the photo, is gradually distributed, ensuring a stable flow rate that can be optimally utilized by farmers. This stepped flow model also functions to control current velocity, prevent erosion of the canal walls, and reduce sedimentation.
The Rajui Reservoir's tertiary canal is greatly beneficial to farmers in Padang Tiji and the surrounding area. With regular water distribution, rice fields can be irrigated year-round, increasing the productivity of rice and secondary crops. This system also helps the community reduce dependence on erratic rainfall.
Besides its primary function as an irrigation channel, this artificial terraced waterfall also offers educational tourism potential. The beautiful, natural flow makes it a compelling destination and provides a lesson on the importance of irrigation infrastructure for food security.
That's all I can share for now. I hope you enjoy it. Thank you.
