LOH #240: The dinner of my heart

My photo

If you could invite any five people, living or dead, to a dinner party, who would they be and why?

Wow! I must say, this is a very interesting and meaningful thought experiment, because it gives me an opportunity to voice my love for the presence of some people in my life. Sadly, not all of them are still in existence, but their memories live on so vividly in my heart, it's almost like they never left. I'd want this dinner to be warm, soulful, and full of laughter, an evening of comfort, stories, and shared joy.

My first guest I would so dearly love to invite is my grandpa. This fellow is what I’d call a super comedian. His presence to me is like sunshine on a cloudy day, bright, infectious, and impossible to ignore. I laughed tears out of my eyes whenever I was with him. Though he's gone now, which is one thing that deeply breaks me, I still cherish those moments we shared. That’s why he gets a seat at this table.

Second is my elder brother. I call him 'The creator himself'. He was incredibly skillful in designing smart devices and home automation systems. To my greatest heartbreak, I also lost him. I’d love to have him at this dinner to share his brilliant ideas with me again and maybe even teach me a few tricks. Just one more moment with him would be everything.

My grandmother is another person I would never fail to invite. I love being pampered; it gives me a sense of being seen, safe, and loved. And my grandmother is the number one person who does this best. She’s the kind of woman who would say "sorry" when your fork falls, or tell you "be careful" over a tiny spill or cough. Her gentle care is something I deeply miss.

My dear friend from school- my laughter mate is someone I just have to invite. Laughter gets sweeter with her around. No matter what happens, she always finds a way to remind me how to laugh again, even after tears. And we’d laugh together like we always did. Her presence would keep the evening light and our hearts full.

Last but definitely not least, my preacher’s wife. She’s like a second mother to me. If no one else remembers to pray over the food, she will. And there’s something about her prayers- they feel like instant messages to heaven. I believe in her faith and her warmth, and I know she'd open and close the dinner with the kind of prayers that wrap everyone in peace.

This evening would be an incredible one filled with laughter, comfort, inspiration, and love. It would be the kind of gathering that leaves my heart full and my spirit lifted. A night to remember, and one I'd carry with me forever.
