THE GRIND OF HUSTLING AND SCHOOLING

The first time I worked for money was when I was a student in the university, I was sponsored by my father while in school and had no other person to ask for money asides him. At the end of every month, he gives me my monthly allowance and never expects me to ask for anything from him until the end of the month. At that time, my elder brother and I were in the university, so he had two children whom he was sponsoring. As the good guy that I thought I was, I would only wait for my monthly allowance and wouldn't call for anything, even when I was in need. I needed to manage the little I had and to put it to good use.

On a faithful day, a friend of mine told us about a waiting job in town, and we would get paid two thousand naira after the job, and we would also have enough food and drinks to eat and even to take home after the event. This was how I joined my schooling time with a hustle. Every weekend we were invited to wait for weddings, we have enough food and drinks afterwards and get paid our wage at the end of the event, although the money was not very much, it gave me the sense of hustling and I was always very happy engaging in the hustle every weekend, I was able to meet the needs I found difficult to meet, and school life in general became easier to navigate.

In comparison to now, students have various means to make money online, sometimes I will say to myself that if all these innovations were popular during my time in school, I would have made millions of dollars both in cash and asset, a student who has no means of earning during this time is either lazy to find something doing, or he chooses not to. Then, it was harder to find something to do and also to get information on how one could make money.

I could remember how my parents refused me to learn anything saying that if we start making money while we were not done schooling, there was a high chance of us not finishing school and we will have ruined our future with our own hands, now parents understand the need for their children to earn even while they are in school as going to school doesn’t guaranty you will have a big job in the end.
