Winner of Sketch Quest August Contest

Here are the winners of our latest contest, Sketch Quest. Thank you to all of you creative members who shared your amazing work. It was so inspiring to see the different stories and scenes you captured.

I had the tough but fun job of judging the entries, and here's a breakdown of how each one stacked up against our criteria:

Grand Winner: Drinking Every Last Drop by @noechie1827

This one really nails it

• Creativity (40%): super creative, especially with the intoxicating effect in the background. The choice to include the little cat judging is a unique and fun touch that adds a lot of character to the scene.
• Inspiration Story (30%): The caption is descriptive and tells a complete, engaging story. You can really feel the moment the artist saw the man and the cat.
• Effort (30%): The detail on the man's face, and the overall composition show clear passion and skill. It feels like a lot of thought went into making this sketch tell a story, which shows a strong effort.

Honorable Mention: The Fishing Village by @tinster

This sketch has a very solid concept and strong execution.

• Creativity (40%): The use of space is really creative. The caption talks about a quiet fishing village but also describes the way the drawing is structured, from the endless sky down to the foreground of the sea. It's a very intentional and thoughtful composition, not just a simple landscape.
• Inspiration Story (30%): The caption is clear and descriptive. While it's a bit more straightforward than the others, it still perfectly explains the inspiration and the thought process behind the composition. It definitely tells a story about the kind of place the artist was imagining.
• Effort (30%): The effort in the details of the buildings and the way the lines create texture is a great example of a sketch that feels complete and well-thought-out.

Honorable Mention: Practice at the mall by @shookt

This sketch is a great example of capturing a moment, which is exactly what your contest is about.

• Creativity (40%): It's a choice to sketch people moving which is not easy to do. Spontaneous moment that is often hard to capture, and the artist succeeded in doing that.
• Inspiration Story (30%): The caption is heartfelt and explains the real-time, on-the-spot nature of the sketch. It shows the artist had to be quick and rely on memory.
• Effort (30%): Capturing a moving scene like this takes a lot of skill and quick thinking, and the sketch shows that the artist put their passion into it despite the fast pace that is effort

Honorable Mentions: Dancing at the park by @hazgruh

This entry is a great example of getting an idea down on paper and sharing a unique vision with the community.

• Creativity (40%): The idea of drawing people dancing in autumn leaf costumes is creative, and the execution is adorable.
• Inspiration Story (30%): It needs a little detail about the inspiration or story about the moment.
• Effort (30%): The final sketch feels less developed than the others. The lines are simpler and the overall composition is less complex.

Since we had four awesome entries, I'll be splitting the remaining prizes equally. This means the other three entries will each receive 1 HSBI each. I will be sponsoring the HSBI units in a jiffy it may take a while before they show up on your wallets.
