A Rainy Cycling Adventure in Kedewatan, Ubud

I joined my clients on a cycling tour with Sobek Adventure in Kedewatan, Ubud. We started by cycling through the village roads, and right away, I noticed how peaceful it was compared to the city. No loud traffic or chaos—just quiet paths lined with trees and traditional houses. Along the way, we passed chickens roaming freely, dogs walking calmly along the roadside, and locals riding motorbikes, probably heading to the market or the rice fields. It felt like a perfect place for a cycling trip.Cycling on the village road of Kedewatan, Ubud, Bali

Before continuing further, our guide took us to visit a Balinese house to give my clients a glimpse of local life. He showed us the layout of the compound, including the main buildings, the family temple, the kitchen, the toilet, and a special building used for ceremonies. The owner was still in the kitchen and greeted us with a warm smile, happily welcoming us to her home.

After the visit, we kept cycling toward the rice fields. That’s when the rain started. But the guide was ready with raincoats, so we kept going. The rain actually made the ride more refreshing and fun, with the scent of wet soil and green rice fields all around.

At the end of the tour, we were supposed to meet our driver, but he was lost and hadn’t arrived yet. So, I joined the pickup truck that carried the bicycles. My clients got the dry seat up front with the driver, while I rode in the back with the guide and the mechanic. The rain hit us the whole way back, and even though we were soaked, I found myself smiling. It was wet, bumpy, and memorable—the kind of moment that sticks with you.

Cycling in a peaceful place makes you more relax and appreciate the road or the place you are into. Unlike in the busy streets or in a lot of people, your mind can't relax if there's a lot of people especially kids or lots of vehicles.
