Delicious sweets made from dried leftover String Hoppers.
Wishing all my dear friends a very good day! How are you all doing? I hope everything is going well and free from worries. In the heart of a Sri Lankan kitchen, nothing goes to waste — especially something like indi aappa (string hoppers). I happened to have some leftover string hoppers at home. Today, I’m excited to share with you a simple, creative, and incredibly delicious sweet transformation using leftover or dried string hoppers. This traditional method not only reduces food waste but also creates a delightful treat perfect for tea time. With just a few basic ingredients, you can turn leftovers into a warm, culture-rich dessert that brings joy to your table.
So, let’s see how to prepare this step by step!
Materials Used.
10 Dried String Hoppers.
Sugar 100g.
A pinch of salt.
A drop of food coloring in your favorite color.
Coconut oil for frying.
Some water.
The cooking process as follows.
First, take a pan and add some coconut oil, then place it on the stove. On low heat, let the oil heat up and lightly fry the string hoppers until they become crispy.
Now, take a pan and add sugar, a pinch of salt, food coloring, and water. Mix everything well together.
Now, while keeping it on the stove, we need to prepare a sugar caramel until it thickens slightly.
Next, pour the prepared sugar syrup evenly over the fried string hoppers as shown below.
So, in this simple way, you can transform leftover string hoppers into a delightful treat. Next time you have a few dry string hoppers lying around, don’t throw them away—turn them into this sweet pleasure! Whether it's for a quick tea-time snack or to surprise guests with a unique local delicacy, this recipe brings comfort and joy in every bite. Share it with your loved ones, and with that, I’ll say goodbye for now. Wishing you all a wonderful day!
