Finish the tale(writing contest) story #31: Memory mix up
It is midnight and i am the only passenger left on the train. The conductor walks down the aisle and whispers "your stop doesn't exist anymore".
Midnight suspended heavy in the faintly
lit train coach
I was the only passenger left envelope in shadows, thoughts dritfting with the rhythmic clikety -clack of wheels on worn rails .
The conductor appeared from darkness, footsteps soft on the carpeted aisle .
He leaned close and whispered ," your stop doesn't exist anymore".
His gasp carried a hunt of night air, words slicing through the stillness lik a cold draft.
I checked the ticket in my numb fingers oloyede station.
I remembered my childhood visit to where we used to play, and catch fun.
How ,why it doesn't exist echoed hauntingly.
The conductor eyes holding a mix of pity and mystery in the faint train lights "maps changes he said gently.
Places slip away like dreams sometimes.
I insisted oloyede was real her appreance said it was.
The wheels kept rolling outside black night blurred past windows likes a shroud. I persisted " take me to oloyede. I felt the conductor's smile was ghost,
it gone the train didn't stop .it kept speeding into darkness.
I stood alone in the darkness after the trains departure, from the shadows an old man surfaced and spoke slowly "places hide when forgotten" before i could turn around to ask if stations live if people recall them? He had vanished.
Appreciate you all for stopping by
