Landscapes

From arid dunes to lush green mountains, landscapes are one of my favourite photo subjects. And so it happens they're also the theme for this week's Qurator's Photo Quest! I try to join in on the fun every now and then, when I can fit the theme, and this time I have no shortage of photos.

So I might as well take the opportunity to share a few of the landscapes I was fortunate to contemplate in the past with you. And to provide some contrasts, let's start with a fresh one:

Even for the ones not enjoying culture that much, Giza's pyramids are a sight to behold. If my memory serves me right, they're the only representants of the ancient Wonders of the World still standing today. I always imagined them stranded in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by desert; when I was able to visit them, I could finally see the reality: the're just a few hundred meters from Cairo! We can see the city spreading behind them, and the array of camels and carriages for the usual tourist traps.

Egypt is a very arid country, but definitely a worthy visit, given the insane amount of temples and historical places. Such a rich history, and with a chance for misterious landscapes when you're going around the usual visits.

What was I visiting here? No idea: the foggy/misty landscape with the scattered palm trees caught my attention way faster than the temple.

Not everything in the country is history and temples. Being the wildlife geek, I was always on the lookout for the indigenous animals. And during one of the golden hours, there they were, their dark bodies contrasting with the reddish mountain.

I know, too far to see what they are. They're glossy ibises, and I'll be sure to make them a proper post; here, I was just enjoying them as part of the landscape.

And to make a break from the arid and rocky landscapes... greenery it is!

To see greener landscapes, I just have to pick up my car. Portugal has some really beautiful wild areas; true, not the tropical jungles...

... but mediterranean forest and mountain rivers are good enough for some nature time to replenish the energies!

One of the good things about posting and reviewing photos, is the reminder that some of these landscapes should be revisited more often!

Maybe time to plan my next weekend getaway? ;)

Despite its arid soil, I think Egypt is fascinating. Years ago, I was about to sign up for a tour of Cairo, but it didn't work out. Excellent image for the contest. Best regards.

It absolutely is; one of the countries that surprised me the most. If you have another chance to visit, go for it!

Great collection of landscape shots. I always like wide vistas and big sky like the first shot 👍

And the scattered clouds add to the composition, I even prefer some when photographing. 😉
