IUCONTEST - How I Want to Be Remembered


“A good name is better than riches or gold,” My Papa will always say.

The truth here is, as a teenager, I never believed it. But as I grew older, I got to see that he was not far from the truth. When my time here is done, I don’t want people to remember me for the money I had or things I owned. As a full Igbo blood, we crave for these things, but these things fade. I don’t believe in riches without humility. If you were rich on earth but rude to people, you were not truly rich. And that’s what I like to classify as being rich in the soul.

When my time is finally done here on earth, I want to be remembered as someone who left people with a positive impact. I want to be known as that guy that left people feeling better than when/how I met them.

I want to be that person that when remembered even in death, I will leave a lasting smile on your face. I want to be that name when mentioned, people will smile because of the impact I left on them. I want to be that guy that gave even with the little I had.

I want to be that guy that gave a listening ear when a soul in need needed to be heard. I might not have all the answers, but I never left that downtrodden soul with questions in his/her heart.

I want to be remembered as that guy who loved even when love hasn’t easy on me.

I want to be remembered as that guy people will say was real and never pretended just to get peoples gratification. That guy that was not two faced. That guy that spoke his mind and stood firm for what was right.

I want to be remembered as that guy that laughed freely at his jokes without minding his problems.

I want to be remembered as that guy who was proud of his origin and never for one day hid behind the curtain just to inflate another man’s ego. I want that pride to inspire someone else to hold on to theirs.

Lastly, I want every word I have ever written to be remembered as words that touched souls, even if it was a single sentence. I want it to be relatable with not just hearts, but souls. I want my words to be remembered as comfort on lonely days.

If only a few people can remember me for this impact/memory. Then I will be fine. I don’t crave for the attention of the whole world. I crave for just a soul or two that will smile at the mention of my name and say, “Nova was a good man”.
