Hello Shadow Hunters community, once again I’m posting in this community and doing so to take part in the ShadowHunters SMASh Contest, round 414.

Blackouts are already part of daily life, although one never truly gets used to them. There is always a moment when the darkness feels heavier than it should.

A few days ago, I went to visit my daughter. It happened to coincide with one of those long blackouts, almost 22 hours, when time seems to stretch and routines change without asking permission. The house was quiet, lit only by a rechargeable lamp, one of those we keep for emergencies.

As I entered the bedroom, I saw it turned on.

The light was steady, small, but enough to hold the space together. And then I saw myself. My shadow projected on the wall, elongated, defined, accompanying me in that suspended moment between the lack of electricity and the need to keep going.

I stopped to look at it.

It was only my silhouette, but it seemed to say something more. In the middle of so many hours without power, that shadow was proof of presence. That even when everything around us goes dark, we are still there. We still occupy space. We still leave a mark, even if it is only on a white wall.

I thought about how the smallest light can reveal shapes that go unnoticed during the day. I thought about the quiet resilience of simple things: a charged lamp, a visit to my daughter, a room that waits.

Blackouts may become routine, but never normal. And yet, even in them, there are moments that invite us to look differently. That night I did not photograph the darkness. I photographed my shadow.

And here is the result: the confirmation that even when the light is missing, something within us remains lit.

La sombra que no se apaga

Hola comunidad Shadow Hunters nuevamente publico en esta comunidad y lo hago para participar en el ShadowHunters SMASh contest la ronda 414.

Los apagones ya forman parte de la vida diaria, aunque uno nunca termina de acostumbrarse. Siempre hay un momento en que la oscuridad pesa más de lo que debería.

Hace unos días fui a visitar a mi hija. Justo coincidió con uno de esos apagones largos, de casi 22 horas, donde el tiempo parece estirarse y las rutinas cambian sin pedir permiso. La casa estaba en silencio, iluminada apenas por una lámpara recargable de esas que guardamos para emergencias.

Al entrar al cuarto, la vi encendida.

La luz era firme, pequeña, pero suficiente para sostener el espacio. Y entonces me vi. Mi sombra proyectada en la pared, alargada, definida, acompañándome en ese instante suspendido entre la falta de corriente y la necesidad de seguir.

Me detuve a mirarla.

Era solo mi silueta, pero parecía decir algo más. En medio de tantas horas sin electricidad, esa sombra era una prueba de presencia. De que, aunque todo alrededor se apague, seguimos estando. Seguimos ocupando espacio. Seguimos dejando huella, aunque sea en una pared blanca.

Pensé en cómo la luz más pequeña puede revelar formas que durante el día pasan desapercibidas. Pensé en la resistencia silenciosa de las cosas simples: una lámpara cargada, una visita a mi hija, un cuarto que espera.

Los apagones pueden volverse rutina, pero nunca normales. Sin embargo, incluso en ellos, hay momentos que invitan a mirar distinto. Esa noche no fotografié la oscuridad. Fotografié mi sombra.

Y aquí está el resultado: la confirmación de que, incluso cuando falta la luz, algo en nosotros permanece encendido.
